Aroma of malt, spice, nutmeg, clove, chocolate, toffee, roast. Flavour is roasty, medicinal and herbal. No idea why they called this Black Saison, it’s more like a mix between a (watery) Chocolate Stout and a herbal Winter Ale.

Bottle 0,33ltr: Very black coloured brew with an American hoppy start and than become gentle bittersweet of taste with some spicy hints.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 07/08/2014, at William K Annankatu, 20140708) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had sweetness, liquorice and Belgian style yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, fruitiness, Belgian style yeast, liquorice, saltiness and bitterness. Afteraste was sweet, burnt and bitter. I found nothing resembling a Saison while drinking this beer. The beer wasn’t bad but the name is misleading.

Appearance: Black color with a fine beige head.
Aroma: Coffee and some acidic yeast notes.
Palate: Medium body. Moderate sweet with a moderate bitterness. Average carbonation. Dry ending.
Taste: Strong coffee, bready and yeast .
Overall impression: Well some do not like Black IPA because it is not IPA or a stout. I love BIPA. So I thought this would be a nice mix as well. Hmmm NO this did not work for me. Not a saison and not a stout. More a porter with acidic notes.
Personal stats: Bottle from Vinspecialisten Kolding Midtby, Denmark.

Bottled from speciaalbierpakket.nl, BB 07/08/2014, large sample, served in a trappist glass. Pours a dark brown beer with a big rocky lbrownish head, leaving a medium almost creamy thick lacing. Aroma has roasted malts, dark fruit, peppery yeast, coriander, anise and licorice. Slight sweet in taste, bit dry, bit bitter. Leaves a bitter and slight crisp finish. Bitterness from malts and some hop seems stronger as the beer is quite dry. Some sweetness comes from caramelly stuff. Slight metallic finish, but for the rest the balance seems to be quite ok. Quite high in carbonation, thin to medium body.

Bottle, 6.5%. Sweet liquorice aroma. Black colour, seems cloudy. Very big rocky light brown head. The flavour is roasted, has a nice dark bread note, mild liquorice as well. Tastes more like a mild porter to me, I do not get much saison out of it... perhaps a little fruity funk.

Murky dark brown, creamy tan head. Faint citrus aroma. Hoppy and malty, perhaps ginger taste. Medium body, fizzy carb.

Bottle. Gusher. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Complex, roasty and fruity aroma, with notes of malt and nuts. Roasty flavour, with fruity notes and touches of nuts. Bitter finish. Well-balanced and good.
