Troubadour Obscura is a mild dark red-brown beer with a balanced Belgian twist. Immediately after the first sip of this beer, the difference with other Belgian dark beers becomes apparent. The solid taste of malt originates from the combination of four different malts used in the brewing of this beer. Discover all the different notes: chocolate, coffee, vanilla…

750 ml bottle. Labeled as “Mild Stout” Brown with red highlights. Beige head with good retention. Lots of fruity yeast with mild roasted notes, mild chocolate esters. It really is a blend of a Belgian Strong ale and stout. It changes a bit when it warms. Becomes bitterer with an Earthy spice on the backend. Medium body. I drank most of this bottle myself and when I was finished my mouth was so dry; I thought I had been chewing on a few cotton balls. Overall I like it. It has nice flavors. However, it’s not something I need to revisit.

Medium beige head. Hazy deep red body. Vinuous rock candy and licorice aroma with caramel, spice, and herb notes. Dry-sweet spicy chocolate and caramel taste with herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, faintly hot, mouthfeel. Dryish alcoholic chocolate and spice aftertaste with herbal coriander and mealy butterscotch notes. Lovely! Excellent! Harmonic, complex, full of flavour, and scarily drinkable. (0.33l bottle, Bishops Arms, Copenhagen.)

Bottle @ Home. Different label and 8,2% abv, but clearly Troubadour Obscura. Pours dark brown with a creamy offwhite head. Aroma of malt, some yeast, ripe apples and pears, bit of darker fruits aswell, milk chocolate. Taste is malt, yeast, caramel, weak milky chocolate, dark ripe fruit. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good stuff, allthough on the sweeter side. 110711

A New addition to the ever growing list of beer available in NH. Pours a deep brown with garnet highlights when held to light, huge khaki head shows great staying power and sticks itself all over the glass. The label calls this a mild stout, I’m not sure what that means or how to rate this but here goes. Smells of light chocolate, brown sugar, dark fruit and spicy Belgian phenols. Taste is rich with brown sugar and light chocolate with the Belgian spice cutting through the sweetness. Mild dark fruits are muted behind the other overpowering flavors. A hint of alcohol shows itself near the end of each sip but is soon overwhelmed. Finishes with a bit of lingering chocolate and a hint of ash. Crispy spirited level of carbonation, medium to full body, bubbly sweet sticky mouthfeel. I think there is more Belgian strong here than Stout. The roasted flavors are barely evident and the sugary sweetness lends itself more to that style. Overall this is a decent brew, but probably not something I would seek out again.

Reddish brown colour, rather big off-white foamy head. Aroma of fruits, chocolate, smoky and burned malts, some yeast. Flavour rather balanced, fruity, roasted malts, dry. Quite accessible.
