Het bier wordt sinds 2010 gebrouwen in Brasserie Artisanale de Rulles te Rulles. Het is een donkerblond bier met een alcoholpercentage van 10%. Dit bier werd gelanceerd ter gelegenheid van het 10-jarig bestaan van de brouwerij. Het bier is verkrijgbaar in flessen van 33cl en 75cl. De etiketten werden ontworpen door illustrator PaliX (Pierre-Alexandre Haquin).

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; 2017 vintage bottling, batch No. 2. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber/light orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, clove, honey, nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, and lightly toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, clove, honey, nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate yeast spiciness and herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, white grape, peppercorn, honey, biscuit, nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium-plus carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/sticky, and slightly syrupy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian strong pale ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV. Perfectly balanced yeast and malt flavors, with very well rounded complexities. Never overly sweet or heavy feeling for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Déception sur cette Rulles 10 millésime 2017. N’ayant pas testé les précédents millésimes, je ne saurai faire de comparaison, mais ce cru 2017 surprend et déçoit par une présence épicée trop présente, écrasant tous les arômes. En verre, cette Rulles est blond abricot (EBC de 15), voilée et parcourue par de très fines bulles conférant une mousse blanche et crémeuse de 2 cm d’épaisseur environ. Le nez est classique sur un houblon floral et herbacé, avec une pointe de citron et légèrement épicé. L’attaque se porte prioritairement sur le malt, suave sur des arômes fleuris, d’agrumes et épicée. La deuxième bouche s’équilibre entre malt et houblon. Cependant les épices commencent à monter en puissance et à écraser les autres arômes. L’arrière bouche, quant à elle, plus sur l’amertume, apporte une touche de fraîcheur appréciable en complément de notes poivrées. A compter de la troisième bouche l’alcool se fait davantage sentir avec des arômes épicés qui deviennent alors trop intenses. Le final est d’une longueur juste acceptable où l’alcool s’affirme entièrement, mais où les aromes épicés très prégnants ne laissent percevoir que quelques notes herbacées. Le sucre, bien présent, ne fait finalement que peu sentir les 10 % Abv. Quant à l’amertume : à part l’arrière bouche, complètement noyée par le sucre, l’alcool et les épices. L’impression est donc loin des 50 d’BU affichés. En conclusion, cette Rulles 10, millésime 2017 n’a rien d’une grande et présente trop de défauts pour cette belle brasserie. J’espère que 2018 me contredira.

Flasche („Millésime 2012“, 75 cl). - Orangegelb, leicht trüb, feine Schwebteilchen. - In der Nase herbe Grapefruit, zarte fruchtige Säure, Aprikosenkonfitüre und zarte Anklänge an Putzlumpen (Brettanomyces?). - Antrunk massiv karamelmalzig mit schwerer Honigsüße und Orangenmarmelade, aufgewogen durch wuchtige orangenschalig-hopfenwürzige Herbe. Anklänge an Zimt und Apfelstrudel, die in der Tat etwas deplaziert wirken. Mild rezent, sehr vollmundig, angenehm mineralischer Zug. Der Alkohol klingt nur dezent an. Im Abgang mehr Bitterorange und Noten von Pfeffer und Chicoree. - Sehr wuchtiges, enorm hopfenaromatisches Tripel, dessen schwere Süße sich mächtig an den zitrusfruchtig-pfeffrigen Hopfenaromen reibt. Beeindruckend - aber nicht restlos überzeugend.

Hazy, golden-orange colored, medium+ off offwhite frothy head, nice lacing and lasting. Aroma is spicy, fruity, Rulles yeasty, some malt and caramel, bit brewing sugary, some herbal notes. Taste is medium+ sweet malt, caramel, brewing sugar, spicy, fruity, Belgian yeast, medium spicy and herbal bitterness, dry finish, some alcohol. Medium+ bodied, average carbonation, oily. Flaska från SB vintage 2012. Smak och doft av honung, örter, gräs, hö, karamell och jäst. Fruktig, blommig, stor sötma, välbalanserad, fin beska. Mycket gott!

Flaska från SB köpt våren 2015. Liknar en stor, kraftig ganska söt trippel. Blommig och fruktig, belgisk jäst, estrar, lite banan, inlagd frukt, honung, gräs, örter och hö. Kanske aningen söt men komplex och stor smakblid. Riktigt gott.

Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 21.12.15 and 18.06.18. Translucent golden. Persistent off-white head and lacing. Aroma of bitter flowers and bitter tropicals fruits. Similar taste, with bitter peach and wheat. Medium low bitterness.

Bottle, bb 02.2015 (shared by fatphil, thanks). Pours dark golden with whiteish head. Aroma is sweet, fresh fruits, apricots, spices, candy. Flavor is sweet, fruity, apricots, apples, spices. Finish is dry bitter. Alcohol is well covers. Overall: very good.
