Brewed for the early risers, who sacrifice sleep and warmth for a the first meeting of the day aboard a wave to shore.

Added in 2013 to the Port Brewing year-round lineup, Board Meeting is an amplified Brown Ale, brewed with liberal additions of coffee from local San Diego roasters, Ryan Brothers and cocoa nibs sourced from famed San Francisco chocolate maker TCHO. Deep coffee flavor gives way to layers of bitter dark chocolate and a creamy vanilla body.

old rating: 3.3. pitch dark, smooth but fluffy light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, caramel. flavor is caramel, cofee, roasted malts, toffee. slightly cloying combination of a bit too-sweet and a bit too-caramelly. aftertaste is a little more bitter. re-rate 2016-03-07. pitch dark, smooth light brown head. aroma is bitter hoppy, nutty, metallic, like an english canned darkish beer. Flavor is very nice roasted malts, with some sugar and rye sweetness, tight, and very dry, leading to an almost smoked finish. flavor wise one of the better brown ales i have had, but the aroma was a bit weak. Perhaps bc it was straight from the fridge, i don’t know. in any case, nothing bad with the flavor. it is not my style, brown ale, but this one is clearly pleasantly drinkable for me.

On tap at the brewpub. A dark, dark brown beer with a small beige head. There’s lots of coffee on the nose, leaving little room for the other flavors. Dark chocolate, roasted malts and some cocoa. The flavor too is mostly coffee, dark chocolate and a little bitterness blending in. Full body, very soft carbonation. Lasting coffee finish. Sure nice, but perhaps a bit one dim. 130815
