22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/4/2013. Pours nearly pitch black dark brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of chocolate, roasted coffee, cocoa, caramel, biscuit, toast, toffee, nuttiness, light floral, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark malt, cocoa, and coffee notes; with good strength. Taste of chocolate, roasted coffee, cocoa, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, light floral, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, cocoa, toast, toffee, biscuit, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt, cocoa, and coffee flavors; with nice robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial brown ale. All around nice balance and complexity of dark malt, cocoa, and coffee flavors; and very smooth to drink for the gravity. A very enjoyable offering.

22oz bottle pours a mahogany brown with some huge, creamy, off white head. Nose of coffee with cream, hazelnuts, malt, toast, brown sugar, toasted almond. Flavor is like Dunkin Donuts Hazelnut Coffee, brown sugar, toasted almond, a little dried fruit. Full bodied, coffee finish.

Draft @ Lord Hobo. Snifter shows a deep black with thin tan head. Nose is mostly espresso with deep roasted charred malt. Flavor is mostly the same with some roasted nuts and chocolate notes and molasses. The flavors are rich and layered. The coffee notes are deep. Damn, this is a great brew! I will drink this again and any coffee lover should try this without question. How much coffee did they use while they brewed this??

Local 44, Philadelphia tap ($5): Pours really dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee and loads of it, but not really bitter chocolate, kind of smooth milky type chocolate. There is really little roasted malts, which makes it not really that bitter. That being said, it ain’t too sweet either. Over all, this is just well-balanced. Quite tasty. I am glad I got it before their tap kicked.

22oz bomber pours with a dark brown body supporting a full nearly creamy dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of dark roasted coffee, some earthy coffee notes and muted sweet molasses blended into a bit of pine hops. The taste is similar with dark roasted coffee rolling into a modest degree of malt sweetness before a mix of dark roasted coffee and pine hops take over. Around the edges of those notes I get some burnt chocolate brownie that adds a nice additional facet to the experience. This is nice stuff and comes across as a big robust Brown Ale.

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, dark chocoltae, and alcohol, leading to a dry finish. Love the name.
