330ml bottle from somewhere in the Netherlands. Bottle’s Jan 28th 2013. 12 years old. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, fizzy tan head. The aroma is roasty, peaty, boozy, bourbon. The flavour is strong liquorice bitter, with a big roasty, dry, oaky, peaty, big warm boozy alcohol bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Pours a frightening black void with a small brown head. Aroma of plum, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, raisins, bourbon. Thick oily mouthfeel. I’ve had better BA’s, but still this is a great brew.

2013 bottle. Deep dark brown color. Malt, chocolate, caramel and bourbon in the aroma. Raisin. Malty sweet caramelly boozy flavor with bourbon, raisin, coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet, but complex and delicious dessert beer. 2010 nip bottle: mix of H&V barrel aged for almost a year on Wild Turkey, Austin Nichols and new charcoaled bourbon barrels, and then mixed, according to the label. Almost black and opague. Strong aroma of dark chocolate, dried fruit and bourbon. Roasted and charcoaled flavor with coffee, strong bourbon notes and dark chocolate. Malty sweet but very complex. Long earthy hopbitter finish with charcoal and bourbon. World class! (9 4 9 4 18 = 4.4)

January 2013 Vintage Bottle at home, #300 Dutch Rating, 21st October 17. Pours black, little head. Aroma is barrel, bourbon, wood, liquor, cocoa. Taste is supper smooth and intergrated, barrel, wood, some chocolate, never too sweet. Fantastic Imperial Stout as always from the European leaders in the style.

0.33 l bottle as ’Hel & Verdoemenis Misto (bourbon barrel aged)’, bottled in January 2013. Another gem from bierkoning’s treasury, thanks Edo! Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty aroma of dark chocolate, lots of lovely vanilla and bourbon, some coconut, coffee and hints of oak. Very sweet, malty, medium roasty taste of dark chocolate, mocca, vanilla, lots of bourbon, some oak and a touch of licorice, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, rather roasty, earthy-dry finish, accompanied by those fantastic notes from the bourbon. Medium to full body, slightly creamy and minimally effervescent mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. This is just unbelievably well-balanced, lots of bourbon detectable in a pleasant, not aggressive way, rather intense and at the same time so harmonious. Fantastic sipper!
