Kick off the long shoes and down (clown) tools for this Experimental Pale Ale, brewed with a pair of new arrivals from America's hop heartland. HBC 342 and 692 juggle juicy, tropical aromas of freash-cut pineapple and floral sweetness in this balanced, bitter pale ale. If the ringmaster calls, let it go to voicemail.

Can at home in Hackney - sourced via Fanzine. Pours totally clear yellow-gold with a foamy, white head. Nicely rounded overall, with pleasant bitter piney, nips of grass, bready pale malts, citrus peel. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more piney-grassy bitterness, sub-kissed pale malts, straw, tangerine rind. Good-drinking beer.

Tight white head stayed on tight white head stayed on a highly effervescent pale amber body. Zesty aroma with mango & confectionery. Medium to thin bodied, sharp on the palate with a clean back. Zest, pith, garlic, hops, mango & citrus tastes

Can via Fanzine. It pours clear orangey - amber with a medium foamy white head. The aroma is sweet, big bubblegum upfront, pink marshmallow, flump and tropical fruits. The taste is initially dry, bitter - sweet, oily, tropical fruit vibes, pithy, floral, papaya, dragon fruit, melon, touch of rawness maybe? gummy bears and resin with a drying linger. Lighter end of medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Quite a fun combo. Plenty going on anyhow.

330ml can via Brewdog Zine. Pours clear gold, with pure white foam resting atop. A good burst of tropics on the nose once pouring commences. Taste is a little thin and grassy, as we’re now accustomed to from these zine cans, but some gentle - if a little lacklustre - fruity, almost bubblegummy, juicy tropics remain. Fine-ish but perhaps not the best showcase of these new hops.
