Kick off the long shoes and down (clown) tools for this Experimental Pale Ale, brewed with a pair of new arrivals from America's hop heartland. HBC 342 and 692 juggle juicy, tropical aromas of freash-cut pineapple and floral sweetness in this balanced, bitter pale ale. If the ringmaster calls, let it go to voicemail.

Tap at Unorthodox. Moderate body, moderate carbonation, moderate caramelly maltiness. Medium bitterness, medium generally fruity hops character. Drinkable, okay, but too caramelly, not great.

What a gloomy day... Brewdog Off-Duty Clown Experimental Pale Ale 5% Clear gold with a nice zesty stone fruit & citrus aroma with floral accents. Not super complex or avant-garde (it’s made with experimental hops HBC 342 & HBC 692) but it is a straight up satisfying pale ale.

8/I/20 - 33cl can from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ kitchen S9, BB: 5/X/20 (2020-16)

Clear orange blond beer, small creamy off-white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: pretty fruity, some citrus, mango, pineapple, malty, peaches, passion fruit, bit oxidized, almonds. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: soapy bitterness up front, some citrus notes, peaches, floral, more soap. Aftertaste: bitter, again that weird soapy flavour, bit oxidized, malty, grains, soft bitterness, some caramel, floral touch, slightly grassy, some tropical fruits in the end with a good dry and bitter finish. Decent, but they’ve definitely made better IPA’s before than this one.
