This is similar to the original Beer Geek Breakfast. However this version is fermented entirely in oak tanks. The oak imparts a different flavour profile than the original.

75 cl bottle. Pours pitch black, small brown head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malty. Bitter, coffee and light fruity. Bitter and dark malty into the finish.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out coffee upfront, followed by oatmeal, and slight oak. Flavour brings out coffee upfront, followed by oats, very subtle oak, and light bitterness. Very well-balanced, with a roasted finish. Very well-balanced, with low residual sweetness.

Pitch black but not that thick. Aroma is roasted, coffee!, chocolate Taste mostly coffee and roasted malts. Dry finish. High expectations not met.

Bottle. Pours with a near black hued body and a frothy brown head. Decent retention. Aromas are roasty, oily, grassy, coffee, intense roast, acrid, dark chocolate, leather, hoppy. Mild esters, some banana. Flavors are intensely roasty, ashy, dark chocolate, dryish. Campfire. Scandinavian style impy stout with intense roast, iodine and ash. Metallic almost. Hugely bitter, thick bodied, afterthought coffee. Slick on the tongue, tannic, not hugely enjoyable. Very viscous with medium high carb. Can’t finish more than a few ounces sadly.

Bottle @ Armin’s apartment, thanks to arminjewell. Black appearance with a thin brown head. Quite bitter, earthy coffee, chocolate, dirt aroma. Slightly charred / burnt flavor with a fair amount of earth and oak. Pretty high bitterness. The coffee element is pretty tasty. Not sure I prefer this to the previous version but it is pretty tasty.

Bottle. Pours dark opaque black with a small brown creamy head that lasts a long time and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee, bit of ashtray. Taste is quite complex, light sweet and medium bitter with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee dominating, some tobacco and perhaps a hint of oakiness, although that is pretty subdued. Finish is moderately bitter, lingering coffee goes a long long time. Full body, smooth creamy mouthfeel as would be expected from the oats. This is a damn nice beer, near perfect for those who don’t want their stouts to be sweet.

Bottle: Poured a black brown with light brown head. Sweet smooth chocolate, coffee, vanilla aroma. Thin silky smooth tongue but rich roasted malt and coffee.
