Soaring through the air with grace and fury, the Luchador descends. The multi-limbed warrior carries an elegance in the efficient manner with which he dispatches his foes. Plenty of action, style, and glory await you in this Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout. Sweet flavors blossom from additions of vanilla and cinnamon, while a spicy body gets it’s kick from ancho chile powder. Dark malt flavors provide a robust palette upon which one may don the Chocolate Sombrero.

Bottle bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours reddish blackish brown with a rather small frothy mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is malty and tiny spicy with roasted malts, dark chocolate, smoked chili, dark roast coffee, chocolate spongecake, vanilla beans, soil and caramel. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and tiny spicy with roasted malts, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, coffee hard candy, moist soil, burnt wood, hay, salty liquorice candy and hints of red chili and smoked chili. Mouthfeel is round, soft, roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. finish is bitter and malty with roasted malts, burnt caramel, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, smoked chili, hay, soil, burnt wood and liquorice fudge. Really solid spice stout!

Bottle, thanks Eddan. Almost black with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of chocolate, milk, some light spices, also with notes of alcohol. Relatively weak body and with a light mouthfeel. Drinkable but nothing sensational. The finish was sweet.

Bottle thanks to timfoolery: Poured a thick black with tan to light brown head. Aroma is strong spice with dark chocolate. Taste is rich dark chocolate with a chile spice bite, very tasty with roasted malt as well.

Bottled, large sample. Dark color, short lasting creamy brown head. Aroma of milk chocolate, vanilla, hint of chili, hint of vanilla, some roasted malts, hint of licorice. Flavor is slight spicy, bit dry, quite bitter from malts. The chile gives a tiny bite, but more a little vegetably hint on top of milk chocolate and licorice. It’s quite tasty, but it seems a bit unbalanced in its flavors. The spice from the chili is not that hot, so that bite is actually quite well balanced, but it doesn’t seem to match completely with the chocolate and roast.

Got in a trade with icetrauma. 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 10/22/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, coffee, vanilla, dark bread, light cinnamon/chile, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted and chocolate, notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, vanilla, dark bread, light coffee, light cinnamon/chile, and roasted earthiness. Slight touch of chile heat on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, vanilla, dark bread, light coffee, light cinnamon, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted/dark malt and vanilla flavors; cinnamon/chile notes must have diminished over age. Great flavor robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice imperial stout. All around good balance and complexity of roasted/dark malt and vanilla flavors; and very smooth to sip on. May have to pick up a fresh bottle to see if the chile/cinnamon is more pronounced; but it was still very enjoyable offering otherwise.
