Soaring through the air with grace and fury, the Luchador descends. The multi-limbed warrior carries an elegance in the efficient manner with which he dispatches his foes. Plenty of action, style, and glory await you in this Mexican-Style Chocolate Stout. Sweet flavors blossom from additions of vanilla and cinnamon, while a spicy body gets it’s kick from ancho chile powder. Dark malt flavors provide a robust palette upon which one may don the Chocolate Sombrero.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of chocolate, and roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Purchased at the Coop in Montpelier, VT. Pours a real dark brown colour with a frothy beige head, decent retention and small lace. Chocolate nose with roasted malt, light spices and vanilla. Slick mouthfeel with a little stickiness. Fruity taste of dark fruits, roasted malts and a nice coffee finish. Not really tasting much spices. More fruit than chocolate as well. Decent, but not as good as I expected from the reviews.

From a 22 oz bottle shared in Avon NC. Pours a cloudy dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Mild chocolate aroma. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, chili, and hop notes. Creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Slight bitter finish. Nice.

Bottle. Pours with a clear, near black deep brown hued body with a medium-small off white head that fades. Aromas of ethyl acetate, strong ester, pears, vanilla, fusel alcohol and chocolate. Light cinnamon and peppery heat, vanilla, rubbing alcohol, raisins. Messy nose. Flavors are nutty, earthy, vegetal, chocolate, raisin, dark fruit, mild heat, nutty, prunes and vanilla. Mild cinnamon, mild heat. Mildly bready, vanilla. Thin overall. Medium carbonation, lackluster body, higher alcohol warmth.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Total Wine-McLean, 3/7/13

Aroma: The nose has plenty of chili pepper, to go along with lots of chocolate, roast, and spice
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown-black color with a small head and minimal lace
Flavor: The pepper is there, but not overpowering, and not as strong as it is in the nose. There are some nice chocolate and roasted malts, but it doesn't get too sweet. There is also a nice, clean cinnamon component.
Palate: The body is medium, it has average carbonation, and it has a tingly, fairly lengthy, spicy finish
Overall Impression: I quite enjoyed the mix here. It is a malt forward beer with mostly chocolate and chili. If you don't enjoy that combination this beer will not work for you. I enjoy it, and I enjoy the beer.

Pours black with a frothy dark head. Aroma is chocolate malt, cocoa, slightly cinnamon. Taste is thick chocolate, spice, light chile... Thick and sweet. Nicely hidden alcohol, though evident at finish along with a higher chile presence. Very smooth, thick, tasty.

Sample at Yard House in Houston. Inky black pour with a medium beige head that diminishes quickly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and slight pepper. Medium to full body with flavors of dark chocolate, earthy malt, and subtle chili pepper. The finish is sweet with a chocolatey aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

It pours a pitch black yielding the same color body, no carbonation is seen rising. A one centimeter tan head gently concaves into the body. Some light foamy lacing is left around the sides. The smell is dominated by milk chocolate. Some toasty vanilla and coffee come in second place and some slight earthy hops come very gently in the background. The taste is centered around most of the same smells, but some light cinnamon and nutmeg come in more so as the beer warms. The palate is about a medium to heavy, with a nice creamy feel all around. The alcohol is hidden fairly well. I would say this is one bomber and done for me. Overall, as long as I’ve been wanting to try this, I’m glad I tried it, however, I was hoping for more spiciness to come, perhaps some jalapenos, or chilis or something of that nature, and I don’t think I could let this get any warmer to perhaps drive out those smells or tastes. I still liked it for the most part, and would probably eventually come back to this.

bottle at home, traded to me by azzy ( BA) pours black, very small white foam, dissapears quite quickly . smell is heavy, dark chocolat, roasted malts, some alcohol, very dark fruits,... very rich nose ! carbo is good and low. taste is way more chocolaty than i dared to hope. damn, what a beer! its not pure chocolat ( like the southern tier) i can still taste burnt malts and all that stuff, but damn, this is one hell of a good one ! aftertaste is chocolat again . . some bitterness as well. LOVE this one !
