Bottle. Pours inky black with a medium brown head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, whiskey, coffee, roasted malt. Flavor is about the same, not really getting the ancho except a tiny bit at the finish. Medium sweet, lightly bitter with the bitterness picking up on the finish. ABV well masked, perhaps by the touch of ancho chili warming on the finish. Medium to full bodied, silky in the mouth. Overall good, not great.

This rating is a combination of draft and 22 oz. bottle. The aroma has notes of chocolate, vanilla, chipotle chilies, cinnamon and a touch of ash. Lots of chocolate dark fruits and licorice up front with cinnamon following a mild Chile pepper in the finish. Roasted nuts also show up during the sip I sampled on draft. The vanilla shows up but you can tell its extract and not natural. Medium-bodied with a soft, smooth texture and a nice creaminess. The spicy Chile pepper showed up much more on draft then the bottle version I had. Overall a stout well worth a try if you like some spicy heat.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks Dany), pours black wit ha small beige / tan head. Aroma of both chocolate and chili upfront, with some faint cinnamon buried further - low roast qualities. Flavour at first doesn't bring out much of the chili spice, but starts out with powdery chocolatey cake and a hint of cinnamon, then veers towards the ancho chili but never burns or dominates. Quite thin-bodied for a 9% impy with a weak body. The chilis at least are not too overbearing, which is good. Drinkable, but not keen on drinking more than a few oz. of this.

A deep dark stout with a thick dark brown head. In aroma, superb chocolate malt with light coffee grinds. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate malt with warming alcohol, vanilla, mocha coffee, faint chili pepper, well done. On tap at Sunset Grill, July 15, 2012.

22oz bomber pours deep dark with full mocha head. The aroma offers up chocolate notes, chocolate malt balls and followed by slim notes of chard chili meat and light brown sugar. The taste delivers a mild level of dark roasted maltiness moving into date and plum ribboned chocolate brownie. To midway mild notes of chili pepper heat leads the rest of the flavors into the finish. This lacks the richness and depth and amazement of a few similar brews I’ve had. Still tasty though.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown with little head. Aromas of smokey peppers, chocolate, vanilla and dark fruit. Flavor is not nearly as nice as I had hoped. The dark fruit favors take way too much away from the chocolate and smoke, and the whole thing comes across as a bit of a cloying malt bomb... It’s a good start, and I think if they figured out how to get a crisper flavor profile, it would be awesome.

Pours dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts with hints of spices. Sweet milk chocolate and roasted malt flavors with some cinnamon and hints of chilis. No heat from the chilis. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Better than I was expecting.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with a large foamy dark tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dry, roasty and a bit woody with moderate notes of coffee and cola. The flavor was dryish cola, cocoa, toasty malts and faint wood and booze. The finish was long and toasty with lingering cola and cocoa. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Peppery coffee nose. Mahogany, thin yellow head. Chocolate syrup flavor Medium body, low viscosity. A little prune at midpalate and coffee and pepper in the end. Full of flavor, tasty, and well made, but I’m not liking the combination of pepper and chocolate so much. A tad too sweet.
