[12oz can from Beer52] A bloody black pour with a tight beige head; lactic chocolate aroma; sweet chocolate milkshake taste with a hint of chilli on the roof of the mouth; then a drier finish with some bitter chocolate.

From a 355ml can on 5/5/2018. Pours a dark brown with a medium head. Has a modest light chocolate nose. The flavour is very much chocolate, with a bit of caramel and cinnamon. There's a mild chili kick as the moderate hops kick in, but it's by no means unwelcome or intrusive. The bitterness is a touch roasty, and balances everything quite nicely. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. Rather easy drinking - would never pick it as 9%. A pretty solid, interesting, enjoyable, if unremarkable, impy.

Can pour into tulip glass from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Appearance is opaque black with lines of sparkle at the sides of the glass, finger-width light brown foamy head with fair retention and trace lacing. Aroma is rich, roasted malt with chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and spice that provides a little burn to the nose. Taste is initial vanilla and cinnamon, dominated in the middle by chile spice, and late roasted malt bitterness. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth thin texture, lively carbonation with spice that lightly stings the tongue and finish with spice and late roasted bitter. Overall, flavors are all there but could be stronger. A little thin in the body. Not special for an Impy and not the best Mexican-inspired stout I've had, but good.

Surprisingly mellow for a beer with a luchador on the can. Chocolate's the primary flavor, with slight notes of cinnamon and vanilla on the edges, while an odd bubblegum/banana note percolates in the back end. Peppers add a subtle woodsy warmth to the finish, while the fade grows dry and roasty. Mostly good, except none of it seems indulgent enough to warrant the 9% ABV, and the bubblegum really becomes distracting as the pint warms. Pours a brown-black with a brief beige head and modest lacing. Chocolate-pepper nose is decent, but the feel's thin and lifeless, lacking body for such a big stout. Okay, but okay doesn't really cut it in this style.

Little bit metallic. Tiny hint of chilli, plenty vanilla. Bitter, dark, roasted and chocolatey stout. Very nice, but not great.

Shared 12 oz. can. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of licorice, dark chocolate. Taste is licorice, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee notes, lactose. Didn't detect either the cinnamon or the vanilla. Finish is harsh. Sounds well enough looking at my description, but it really wasn't that great.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a cloudy, deep brown with a finger of beige foam that lingers, then dissipates. Faded chocolate aromas with wet dog hair permeate the nose. Old chocolate malt on the palate, wet cardboard, coins and some light chili toward the finish. Abv was hidden super well though. --- Beer merged from original tick of Chocolate Sombrero on 31 Jan 2018 at 20:10 - Score: 4. Original review text: Awful really. Wet dog hair on the nose, old chocolate malt aromas. Smooth on the palate. wet cardboard, coins and light chili pepper.

Not bad. I could barely taste any of the spices or chili, but it was at least a decent enough stout with a pronounced chocolate element. Not much roast, mildly bitter/acrid. Semi-sweet.
