Zwart & Wit has a smooth mouth feel and combines both the hoppiness of a classic IPA and the light roasted malt flavor of a stout. Flavor indication: grassy, hoppy, light roasted. Translates as Black & White

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Herbal, minimally piney and citrusy hoppy aroma, dark malty background. Taste is herbal and minimally citrusy hoppy, dark malty background with cautious hints of coffee. Overall not that hoppy as I expected considering the hop bill - still nice, though.

33 cl. bottle @ ’t Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Bottled on 07/08/2013. Quite fresh still. Pours dark brown / blackish in appearance with a bit smaller but creamy and very stable beige head. Smells distinctly roasted, mocha, sweet chocolate, slight vanilla, hint liquorish + grapefruits & pine hops. Taste is quite bitter, strong roast with some mocha & chocolate, bit burned in the finish, almost hint of ash, roasted malts & dash ground coffee, of all the hops, Nelson Sauvin is the one I am picking up by far the most, heavy undercurrent of juice Nelson Sauvin through. Body is a touch too light for what it should be, bit lesser carb. which is just perfect. Solid, improvement over some recent De Molen stuff, quite solid but still not close to the best ones of yore.

Bottled, bottle data Aug 7th 2013, large sample. Dark brown color, short frothy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, hint of red fruit and blackcurrant, quite a lot of grapefruity hops, citrus. Wow, quite complex actually. I don’t know if I would guess it as a black IPA when tasted blindfolded. Quite bitter taste, very very fruity. I love the fruits and the subtle amount of roast. Leans towards fruity IPA a lot. Great balance.

Tap at De Molen. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is grassy hop and roasted malt. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with some grassy nettle hops, roasted malt, a little dark chocolate and some coffee too. This beer really has everything and was a big surprise.
