Poured from a 22 oz bottle, 2011 vintage. Aroma is rich and malty with quite a bit of caramel and toffee. Some medium bourbon and oak notes with quite a bit of dark fruit, mostly cherry but also blueberry. Medium alcohol spice. Pours a cloudy, burnt amber with a large, thin, tan head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Faint lacing and medium legs. Flavor is moderately tart with some berry skin tannins. Moderate malt notes of caramel and toffee. Moderate bitterness that is somewhat harsh and conflicts with the medium light fruit notes that remain in the beer. Some medium light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, this may have been better fresh, but it aged very poorly. The fruit notes conflict with the alcohol heat and bitterness. The aroma works much better than the flavor.

22oz bottle pours a lightly hazy amber with some spitty, white head. Nose has a lot of booze, some guava, a ton of pomegranate, wood, mild, mild toothpaste. Flavor has a ton of pomegranate as well, vanilla, cherry, mild berry, malt, red grape. Full bodied, oily finish.

220z bottle pours with a murky mahogany body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a pleasing tart note mixing with sticky molasses, sweet malts, caramel malts, some prunes and some sweet bourbon soaked raisins. At the end of the draw I get a decent little hit of boozy heat. The taste is rich, deep, sweet and tart and fruity. Yum. I get tarter berry notes moving into sweet thick malts and molasses covering over sweet mushed up prunes and raisins. I get into modest and smooth sweet bourbon notes into the finish. Yummers!

Sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective barrel-aged beer tasting on 08/11/2012. The beer is a cloudy dark orange-amber color with a medium thin light tan head that diminishes steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Oaky bourbon, spices and berries in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of cherries, brown sugar, sweet malt and spice. The finish is funky fruits and spices. Solid beer all around.

Borefts Beer Festival 3. Bottle - big thanks to the Mikkeller guys for letting me scoop this. Hazy amber beer, no real head. Nice fruits - tastes a little cherry but there is none in here! A little oaky sweetness balances nicely. Finishes neutral - nice balance of fruit and oak. Tasty!

Bottle 153 of 192 shared at Dmac’s tasting. Pours reddish black cranberry. Nose of blueberry, bourbon, honey and caramel. Tastes like black forest cake with honey and cherries soaked in cognac. Very interesting, just not my style.

2010 bottle marked as 109/182 thanks to LtDan. Pours with a hazed brown body and an off-white head that sticks around. Aromas of cherry, bourbon, waxy, nutty, honey and some alcohol. Tannic wood notes. Flavors are fruity, with alcohol and wine. Caramel. Very chewy. Medium to high carbonation. Tasty.
