Bottle, best before 9/11/15, from Downtown Wine and Spirits, drunk 9/1/15.
Quite a lovely pour, being a magenta-mahogany, nicely bright and with a light tan head that recedes quickly to cover/ring.
This is quite the intriguing beer, all told. What it dosent have is a bunch of underfermented, sticky, syrupy sugars or any booziness. Even the lactose is fermented out, leaving just a touch of tartness/sourness behind. The roast/coffee character is medium-light, having no old/beany/stale notes, nor any heavy dominace of the palate. Carbonation seems appropriate and the body, while somewhat watery, is soft enough and glides down fairly easily. Quite drinkabl, but what I’ve been building to here, is that the vanilla is just out-of-control. Not that it’s syrupy-sweet or artificial, it’s not at all; the actual vanilla flavor is quite enjoyable and real, but it’s just too much. Astringent and dominant, it takes over the beer, especially with warming, as one should allow a stout to do. At the end of the glass it’s almost all I smell and taste.

22 oz. bottle purchased at the Beer Store, Nashua. Deeper brown/ black color. Aroma is a nice mix of vanilla, roasted malts and light coffee. Real nice.

The flavor starts again with the vanilla and turns into the coffee on the backside. The bitterness is in the form of coffee. The body is medium with a nice creamy texture and a nice smooth velvet feel. Really nice sweet stout. Recommend on a fresh bottle or draft.
