Pours oily black with a short, dark head. Aroma is cocoa, vanilla...roasty. Taste is a dark chocolate/licorice bitter...vanilla..a hint of prune and cherry. Roasty and creamy, thick. A very good one.

Firkin Fest 2013. I liked this. Lots of malt in the aroma with roasted grains. Flavor has caramel and fruit, which I didn’t expect, and sugar sweetness, which I did. I did not taste the cherry but the chocolate is there. Good flavors and aromas but not a particularly good palate.

12oz bottle. The above description seems inaccurate at this point. Opaque black body, creamy rusted beige head. Not much in the aroma surprisingly, pretty mellow, some cocoa. A pretty solid imperial chocolate stout, rather easy drinking, doesn’t really show it’s strength. Not much in hop balance, which is not a surprise for Lakefront. Big cocoa chocolate flavors, but frankly..who knows what natural flavors they added. Overall pretty enjoyable, lacks some depth..sort of like a streamlined version of a big Danish Imperial Stout.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, grassy chocolate malt with light dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate with vanilla, grassy hops, sustained bitterness, loads of alcohol warmth, nice. On tap at Istmus Beer and Cheese Fest, Jan 19 2012.
