Dark brown coloured body with a cola glow at the bottom and a decent, single centimetre tall light brown head - only about 50% opaque, pretty light for the style. Aroma of milk, lactose, nuts, earth, caramel, raisins and a bit of metal - interesting. Medium-bodied; Strong malt and metal flavour at first with raisins, some pungent smoke and earth and little else. Aftertaste is pretty boring and more fitting for an old ale or a typical porter and not a baltic porter. Overall, definitely not worth searching out nor buying this if you can still find it in a store, and not even fathomable to buy this then bring it back home across the whole of Canada and the USA to drink it at home, like I did! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Legacy Liqour Store in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 08-June-2015 for CA$9,45 sampled at home in Washington on 08-October-2015, four months later.

Bottle - Hoyne - Roast malts and some dark fruit. Jet black with a rich beige head. Dark malts, light bitterness and a light malty finish. A very light and plain Baltic.

Dark brown, with a bubbly head. The aroma has a thin brown malt character...more Hoyne than Driftwood...and there’s a bit of toast. The taste is sweet, little bit oily, creosote, touch of marmite, but then it gets thin...kind of weird, it doesn’t really come together, definitely nothing Baltic, that’s for sure.

Bottle from Legacy Liquor, Vancouver
Hoyne label

Dark brown color, almost black; medium sized head. Dark malts aroma, cereals, light coffee, earth, some stale bread. Good body, but lean; the malt flavor is semi-sweet and a bit bready, caramel; earthy, dusty touch, and low bitterness; low level of bitterness.
A bit confused.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of wood, roasted malt, and dry cocoa. Flavour is similar, bringing out notes of wood and roasted malt, with a dry cocoa finish. Robust and full-bodied for the style. Good stuff.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with light white head. Aromas of smoke/ash, heavily roasted nuts, and burnt malts. Flavors of light vanilla and chocolate with the same but lesser ash/smoke notes as the nose. ABV is well hidden. Quite quaffable.
