Traditional throughout Latin America, the guayabera shirt combines style, functionality, form and tradition in its four-pocketed design. We at Cigar City Brewing feel the same reverence and appreciation for the guayabera that we do for the Citra hop varietal, an ingredient that imparts notes of tangerine, lime and berries to this traditional American Pale Ale. The exclusive use of Citra hops in this beer creates a flavor that’s at once unique and recognizable, while its dry, crisp character and moderate alcohol make it as refreshing and functional as a crisp linen guayabera.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours off-gold with a white head. Aroma of roasty malt and citrus. Med body. Flavor is not exactly citrus - citrus plus other flavor I can't quite pin down. Leather, earth, something. Pretty tasty tho. Not entirely dry; moderately bitter. Main positive is the flavor. For me it's different and tasty.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 3/29/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, honey, roasted biscuit, light nutty/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light nutty/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/rind, pepper, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 5.5%. Overall this is a fantastic American pale ale! All around outstanding omplexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish, never overly aggressive. Outstandingly vibrant, juicy, and dank Citra hop complexity; nice solid bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Loved the hop profile as expected.

Yet another fortunate Cigar City acquisition, I found this at The Cellar in Odessa. The first 12 oz can out of a six pack, I pour ice-cold into a tall beer glass. Nice look, an opaque pale yellow, vigorous effervescence and a plentiful pillow of white foam. Nice aroma, citrus, natch, melon, herbal. But we should drink should we not. Pleasant, like an ipa lite, lemony, lightly hoppy, a touch of sweetness and a decent bitterness. Sessionable, it appears, Guayabera has its time and place.
