At the source: pours near black with a beige head. Aroma is plenty of tobacco and smoke. Taste is a sharp smokiness. Pretty malty. Unique smoky character. Pretty nice.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a relatively thick rich brown head, that shows about 80% opacity in the body. Aroma of strong smoked meat, liquid smoke, mushrooms, roasted malt, a hint of coffee and more, artificial smoked notes without much depth. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted notes with coconut and toffee by far the strongest up front with a big dose of bitterness from coffee, all finished up by some smoke flavours that border on mushrooms, bacon and liquid smoke. Aftertaste has a hint of depth from the malt, but still some relatively unconvincing thin bodied notes of cardboard, toast, grain and liquid smoke with mushrooms and coffee also around. Overall, an interesting beer that just rubs me the wrong way with a thin body, not much malt around, yet a big smoke flavour - tastes on the liquid smoke/fake side of things without much complexity, as well. Worth passing up, or trying to see if this is all a bad rating and the beer IS actually really good!?! I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 26-November-2016 for US$1,69 sampled at home in Washington on 06-August-2017.

From my parents, this was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a decent pace. Not much lace.
The aroma had some sweet meaty smoky tones over top of some ash and earthy to grassy hops. Light coffee. Touch of vanilla.
The flavor leaned into the sweet meaty smokiness. Followed through in the aftertaste and on into the finish.
The palate was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good.
Overall, pretty good smoked beer I could give another shot if offered.

Draft @ Eulogy, Phila. Dark brown. Thin head. Smoky toasty nose. Rich smoky character, nice sweetness, a bit too much acidity from the smoky malts. But the smoky/ toasty part I like. It just struggles to maintain momentum through the glass.

A deep dark porter with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light peated notes, smoky bacon, pleasant. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee grind, light peated notes, sustained in mouth, light mineral notes, very nice. On tap at Molly Malloys.

12 ounce can. Dense black color topped by a brief tan head. Roasted malt nose with notes of burnt wood, ash and smoke. Flavor mirrors nose with additional notes of dark coffee and chocolate. Some leather and tobacco in middle. Smooth and drinkable with a smoky bittersweet chocolate finish. Quite nicely done
