Bottle @ Rowdy Rebel Revel, Sønderborg. Pours cloudy very dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of coffee and chilli, with some roasty notes. Roasty flavur with a good (but not excessive) deal of chilli and coffee and notes of malt and yeast. Spicy and rough aftertaste with coffeelike notes. Very decent but rather boozy.

Deep brown black body. Rusty beige head. Relatively subdued pepper tones, very balanced. Really easy going for the ABV. Pretty great beer, certainly less viscous than I would have expected.

Bottle to tulip. Oh how I expected to enjoy this knowing the brewery well and the hype. Instead, the pepper is a little too much, the booze presents itself a little too strongly, and the chocolate has a slight manufactured taste. Pours an oily black with moderate low dark tan head, not surprising that the head does not last with the alcohol content. Slick mouthfeel. A little chalky as it warmed. My bias against beers with chili peppers continues.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/4/2015. Pours dense pitch black color with a small dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit/smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chili pepper, and coffee/vanilla/cocoa spice notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit/smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of pepper spice and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, toast, dark bread, light dark fruit/smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt chili pepper, and coffee/vanilla/cocoa spice flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a smooth, creamy, fairly sticky/chalky, and slightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Very minimal heat from the actual peppers as well. Overall this is an incredible spiced imperial stout style. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, chili pepper, and coffee/vanilla/cocoa spice flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly amazing offering as expected.

Yellow waxed bottle, ~2.5 years old, drunk 10/4/15.
Not really sure why I’m opening this tonight, but it’s been sitting in my fridge forever. Figures the fridge time should hopefully give it lots of time to mellow and the yeast should fully clean up any odd Choc brewery metal or dirtiness.
Large dark beige/tan head slowly recedes to cover. Huge amount of sludge left behind in the bottle, and a careful pour still yields an opaque ebony monster.
Well, the nose is certainly not starting things off on a positive note...Vanilla, German chocolate cake and huge amounts of fudge barely make room for a little bit of roast to shoulder itself in there to attempt (and fail) at balancing. Not boozey, at least (though I only opened the bottle about 10 minutes ago, will revisit with more breathing.
Without much to sit and ponder in the very underwhelming, rather monotonous nose, I dive right in to the actual beer. Huge dextrinous body is massively thick and propelled on by a fairly ample carbonation. It divulges vanilla, chocolate sauce, still a surprising amount of chili heat and finishes with crunchy, earthy coffee. Alcohol begins to cut the texture and creeps in on the finish, though it dosent seem to be a booze bomb (though that’s probably because it’s so god damned thick and syrupy, spicy and full of coffee). Too much gooey fudgey sugar lingering and the chili just cheapens the beer, making it come off as a novelty beer (which it kind of is, I guess). The more it warms and breathes, the more syrupy, thick and messy it gets. Even taken as a sipper, which these beers are obviously intended to be, it’s just too much, with absolutely no finesse, nuance or restraint of brewing. So much god damned vanilla. To be positive, the appearance is astonishing. As Ernest mentioned, this has a first pour opacity (and mine having sat in the fridge for 2.5 years). Furthermore, it wasn’t quite a drainpour, my love for chili pepper helping allow me to finish it.
I have the Coffee Noir in my fridge that has also been sitting there for as long. Will try that eventually and probably call it quits with Prairie. Just another one of these new American breweries targeted at those without tastebud. Not to mention all this at 2.5 years of age!! This must have been utterly disgusting when fresh.

On tap at Beavertown Rainbow Project 2015, Tottenham, London. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Rich, chocolate, coffee, vanilla aroma. Tastes similar, very rich, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, hint of chilli. Hard to believe this was 13% alcohol. An excellent Imperial stout, glad to have found it at last.
