Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of smoke, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a solid light brown head, about four centimetres tall. Aroma of roasted malt, earth, caramel and a touch of coffee. Medium-bodied; Strong malts coupled with a robust coffee and chocolate flavour coupled with some sweetness and a nice earthy flavour. Aftertaste is relatively simple, but shows well with the roasted malt and toffee front and centre with a little grain and alcohol showing up too. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer, considering that I’ve had some stinkers from this brewery in the past, but this was good! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased yesterday from Whole Foods (Streeterville, E Grand Ave) in Chicago, Illinois on 13-November-2015 for US$2,49 sampled in my hotel room a couple of blocks away in Chicago, Illinois on 14-November-2015.

From a bottle it is dark, smells dark and tastes dark. A little coarse at first. Does get a little more acceptable towards the middle. Finish is simply porter that thinks its more than 6%, trying to be the little brother of impy stout. .

Bottle from Binnys. This has been hiding in my cellar since April, so it may be a little gone by now. Let’s see. Grainy, light cocoa porter smell in the bottle. Pours a deep brown/black with some bubbles on the side, and a 1" layer of brown foam, which brings up more cocoa smell. Chocolate taste settles down after a few sips, leaving a rather roasty porter/stout combo. But atill, plenty malty, and there’s some sweetness aching to get out, but held back by otherwise unnoticed hop bitterness.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered deep brown black body. Pretty steady rusty beige head. Cocoa, chocolate aroma. Sweet, sugary chocolate porter. Has some doughy, bakers chocolate. Nice flavors, but kind of sweet. Creamy, some Milk Stout tendencies. The wheat does indeed give it a milkshake texture, which isn’t really what I want in a beer...but is pretty tasty. A respectable enough offering from a unique brewery.

12oz bottle poured into old school Hoegaarden tulip. Really dark brown color but not black. Small head, fades into nothing. Aroma is balanced with light fume and mineral. Light malt, not sugar, sweetness. Flavor is similarly light and balanced, short aftertaste and light body. Its full of flavor yet easily drinkable. Might seem simple but actually very special.

Sample at the Big Tap In on 05/31/2014. Brownish-black color with a thin beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt, chocolate and subtle hops. Light-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, nuts and coffee. The finish is roasty with a dark chocolate and coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.
