750ml bottle shared by Smith. Brown body, foamy off-white head. Big brown sugar, very sweet. Solid. Nice effervescent body. Well done.

750 ml bottle thanks to Wilrunforbeer. Bottled Oct 2015. Aroma is blackberries, cocoa nibs, dark fruit and maybe a wet oak hint.

The flavor is interesting. Again I get blackberries, dark fruits, bakers chocolate and very mild bourbon hints. Mouthfeel is decent, ABV burn is almost nonexistent, very slight burn. Texture is nice fuller side of medium.

Sample at EBF 2016 Solid black color. Big rich chocolate malt notes. Light earth and hints of pitted fruits. Faint hints of oxidation, decent enough beer.

Bottle. Pours black with small tan head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong roast, bourbon, wood, chocolate. Thick, chewy, great barrel character, chocolate, wood, really nice.

Draught at Night Shift, 11/21/15.
Inky black body seems opaque and is topped by a small amount of dark tan head that slowly fades to cover.
Bourbon is done pretty well in the nose, showing good restraint. Night Shift is almost always good about not overdoing the barrel character, which is always well-appreciated. Coconut, prunes, dark chocolate and definite alcohol, creating a liquor-like quality to it. A bit of ashiness on the end.
Oily oak and slick bourbon qualities add lots of spiciness and a fair amount of toastiness to it, drying things out initially, but the malt certainly fights back adding dark chocolate flavors and strong fudge-like sweetness. Some prunes and ash on the finish are enjoyable and there’s a bit of a bourbon reprise, replete with coconut and toasted oak. Low carbonation and a bit loose/watery in the overall texture. As well, it’s quite boozey even for its size. Flavors are on point, just needs a bit better production, I think.
