Vetus is part of our Frigus project where barrels are selected and aged in our small outdoor barn. Fetus is a Biere d’Garde that was matured in barrels and frozen over the winter. No two blends will taste the same!

Blend #1 (blended 12/16/2015) – This version was matured for 12 months in South African red wine barrels from Thelma Mountain and frozen over the winter.

Bottle. Pours clear reddish hazel, small off-white head, dissipates quickly with a bit of lacing. Aroma is acetone initially, fading with time, oak, woody raisins. Flavor is light tart, light funk. Light body, minimal carbonation in the end. Decent after breathing a bit.

Bottle thanks to Mike. Pours a hazy copper with no head. The aroma is oak, grape, earth, funk. Thin mouth, vinous, oak, vinegar, very sour, really good.

Bottle shared by Blisscent on 2/20/16.
Lightly mucky, drab olivine-tinged dark amber liquid has a beige head that immediately fizzles.
Cherries, plums, light wood and grapeskin in the nose quickly transition to souring agents. The malt is certainly there so it’s not hard to claim BdG, but add the wine barrel, heavy fruitiness and tartness and you’re definitely approaching sour/wild ale. Which is fine, who cares what it’s called. Well developed, unique and interesting aromas gain some toffee, currant and vanilla character with warming but no alcohol or flaw is apparent.
Wacky flavor. Like a low gravity eisbock blended with a barrel-aged wild amber ale. Light raisin and caramel malt quickly dry out and there’s earth, oak, vanilla and tons of phenolic and acetic character. Another crazy experimental beer from the masters of crazy experimental beer. Moderately successful but I can’t help wondering if a bit more malt and less phenolic/sour character would help here.

Bottle from blisscent. Thanks Nelson! Dirt muddy water, no head. Aroma is herbal sour and earthy all at the same.

Flavor is off the wall. Sour grapes, herbal notes and funky ass yeast. Very strange. Different but odd. Herbal finish.

Nice looking bottle. Thanks Nelson for sharing. Reddish brown color, very hazy. Very acidic aroma. slight vinegar aroma with rotten grape, wine, oak. Holy crap this is sour. killing my taste buds. Incredible malt presence, it gets really tart really fast and fades to a lasting malt with a little bit of rubber.
