We started with a robust porter base, and added cocoa powder to the boil. Once the beer fermented, Annette made a tea using a combo of:
— cayenne-like peppers (from the dashing RJ at White Gate Farm) that we had dried and saved from last year, and
— cinnamon sticks that were used by Flag Hill in a spiced rum that they made last year.
This tea was then added to the fermenter.

A deep dark brown porter with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, light chili, light vanilla, pleasant. In mouth, sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, light lingering hot pepper, light vanilla, surprising. On tap at brewery.

From my brother: pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate, cinnamon, other spice. Taste is chocolatey. Cinnamon is not too heavy up in there. Mild heat at the finish from the pepper. Not bad.

Draft at the source. Had as a after dinner brew. Black color, Chocolate nose with mild pepper, mole spice.
Flavors starts with cinnamon, followed by chili pepper, herbal tea leaves. Very mild chili heat flavor that has a presence throughout the sip. Heat became noticeable after half a pint. This is a medium bodied beer with low carbonation and a smooth, almost creamy texture. As long as you know this is very spicy and herbal upfront, you will be ok with a sample. Depends on your tolerance of spice.

Sample at EBF 2016 Solid dark brown color. Big spicy tannic tea on the nose and in the flavor. The malt isn’t big enough to stand up to the spice treatment here. Just OK.
