The first of our three part Saison series. Saison’s were traditionally brewed on farms in the French speaking region of Belgium for their workers. Ferme de La Ville or “City Farm 15” is brewed with Belgian Pilsner, malted wheat, and locally gathered honey. French Farmhouse yeast brings aromas of spice and earth. The body is light with complex flavors and a dry refreshing finish.

750ml bottle pours out a hazy golden topped with a bubbly head. When this was fresh it was more saison forward as time has passed and Brett took over. It is now more wild and sour. Nose is Brett tartness citrus lemon wood and perfume. Taste is more of the brett tartness citrus and wood. I like it more now then went it was fresh. I love how time and bugs change beer.

Bottle @ What the Funk Denver 2014. Golden appearance with a white head. Unfortunately, there was a bunch of diacetyl in the nose. Some citrus / lemon notes, but hard to get past the butter. The flavor was also messed up by the buttery notes. Some vanilla, lemon, and honey. Too bad this one wasn’t in its best shape.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell in London - big thanks to Aaron. Pours hazy yellow-gold with a creamy white head. The nose has light bretty funk, some subtle rindy citrus, lemon. Light sweet flavor with modest dryness, good brett funk, more dry citrus rind bitterness. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Pretty clean to finish, lightly drying, with basement brett character and dry citrus fruits. Nice.

Bottle, thanks to Aaron. It pours hazy golden yellow with a medium white head. The nose is soft, earthy, brett, underlying sweetness, barnyard, sherbet, light toast and spice. The taste is sherbet, hay, toast, crisp bitterness, lemon, grapefruit, spice and subtle tartness with a dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Well-rounded and very drinkable stuff. Tasty.

Bottle split at CBC, big thanks to Aaron and his date issues, 05/12/13. Hazed golden orange with a thin off white covering. Nose is tangy fruit, grass, light herbal minty, orange peel, tarte apricot, lemon sherbet. Taste comprises tarte orange, bitter apricot, straw, light funk, earthy, citric grass. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry closure. Nice saison.

Bottle tasting at Craft Clerkenwell.Thanks to Aaron. Hazy gold beer, little pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and airy and a little crisp. Light floralness with a very mild sour tang. Whisper of lemony citrus. Little dried fruits. Finishes light. Pleasant enough!

Sampled from a corked 0.75l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. A honey colored cloudy little thing this with a medium sized off-white head. Some lacing down the glass. It has a really fresh and nice aroma that mainly contains of brett, grass and a spring aroma found when the first grass is being cut for the season. Quite lovely. It has a lively carbonation level and a oily mouthfeel. In the taste I get some traces of yeast, floral flowers and let there be no doubt, it there is lots of brett here. Really refreshing and really good! 15.06.2013
