Bouteille 33cl, no BB but appearing beyond date, from Geers.

(23/01/2016). Meer info vind je bij: http://www.beersfrombelgium.eu/nl/Big_bayou-b-4113.html

Creole-themed spice beer with chilli and cayenne pepper, curious about this. Heavy gushing, a fountain of beer erupted from the bottle neck upon opening. Clear, warm ’old gold’ colour with vivid fizz and tiny yeast bits here and there; irregular, off-white, bubbly head. Aroma of butterscotch, bubblegum, fried chicken, banana, fainter hints of dried apricot, dried sweet chilli peppers, wet cardboard, lime peel, bread, sundried tomato, sweet curry spices, soapy wheat - in all, rather unusual, but not necessarily unpleasant. Sweetish, fruity onset, very ’Belgian yeast’ profile, peach, banana and unripe redcurrant sourishness, spritzy carbo, grainy pale malt sweetishness while the yeastiness continues and gains a light spicy character, blending in with the mild chilli pepper flavour in the end; this feature, however, stays very subtle contrary to expectations: there is a very, very light ’tinge’ of chilli all the way at the back, but it does not provide any true heat, so lingering malt sweetishness and an earthy, mild hop bitterness make up the most of the finish. Interesting and more quaffable than expected, but a bit ’untidy’ and the gushing bothered me a lot; the label also created expectations of a far hotter chilli burn, but this is way too mild for a chilli beer, in my opinion at least.

Clear(ish) golden colour, white head. Mild gusher. Some small floaties (spices?). Malty aroma, spices (kipkruiden), yeast. Spicy flavour, light malts. Very fizzy. Finish spices. Don’t draw air, it doesn’t improve with air at all. Quite honestly I was expecting it to have some chili heat as well, there being a big chili pepper on the label, but it doesn’t.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma has spices, some sweet malts and mild wooden notes. Flavour is spicy, some earthy and malty notes along with a burn in the aftertaste. Not overly burning, but the flavour is quite thin as for the body.
