Maes Radler Citroen / Citron

Hazy pale yellow colour, white, very white head. Aroma of citrus, light malts touch. Reminding of Gini. Lemonade flavour, Gini, sweet, light sour touch, quite refreshing. Finish citrus and lemonade, malty touch. One of the best sodas I’ve had in a long time!

33CL can, got it for free at my purchase at a local bottle shop. I drank it from the can so appearance I don’t know, aroma was lemon, taste was sweet. Not a bad radler.

Can, given to us for free from the fine folks at Dranken Geers, which we drank in the car while driving through Belgium. To start, I must say that I am impressed by the lack of brevity in the reviews of this ’beer’ heretofore; as such, I shall do my best to continue in the already-established tradition of verbosity. The radler pours a lightly foggy yellow with a fine, white cream cap, reminiscent of a light snowfall in London, which of course never sticks around for more than a few hours before melting and seeping into the earth. The aroma holds a soft, lemony character; I am transported back to my youth, to the days of so many sweet, refreshing lemonades (although I gather this radler is made with lime or something) we drank on hot summer days. While my days of lemonade-drinking are more or less behind me - I shy away from most sugary drinks - I do enjoy when the fruity, sweet citrusy character of lemonade is incorporated into a beer. The flavor is medium sweet - a welcome characteristic for a style of beer that so often leans towards the overly sweet, cloying end of the sweetness spectrum. There is further lemon character here, dragging me deeper into my nostalgic reverie. The body is fine, the carbonation massaging, as if mirroring the overarching softness and calmness of childhood, a time of goodness and simplicity. The beer’s finish is refreshing and carries a bit more lemony-limey fruits and moderate sweetness. While this beverage is certainly no major achievement in brewing, we must not discount its intangible properties, which I have tried to lay bare here in my review. I have one more can of this radler remaining; I suppose we’ll drink it this weekend.

In any case, if I’d bothered with entering my rating when I had it, I’d be the first. Aw :(. Poured a nice murky yellow body with a white head. Sweet lemon drops nose actually ok. Sweet fruity lemon drops taste, actually completely unoffensive and drinkable. Looking at the ingredients, they used stuff like acerola inside too. Strange, but this is one of the best radlers you’ll find anywhere!
