Draught at Return of the Belgian Beer Fest, 9/17/16.
Clear, highly-sparkling, brass-golden body is topped by a good-sized, white head with moderately-high retention.
Snappy herbal and pepper notes emanate from the hops, with just a touch of lemon rind. Dry grains abound, with very light honey and a healthy dose of sourdough bread. I love that these guys do a fair number of pilsners and I think their propensity for low-to-mid gravity beers, soft, understated hopping, dry, yet malty bodies and high cleanliness translates perfectly from their table saisons to a German pils. There’s a great minerality here and wonderful, zesty hopping leading to a dry, crisp finish. Clean, and with no alcohol.
Malty, yet well-attenuated, with honey, baked bread and tons of zesty herbal notes. I didn’t think the carbonation, while perhaps softer than a "classic pilsner" is problematic, and rather seems just the opposite here. Still quite tight. Really everything you want out of a pilsner. Just a hint of malt sweetness, herbs, pepper and only moderate bitterness, with grainy malt and tight carbonation on the clean finish. Delightful.

At the bottling place: pours golden with a white head. Aroma is grass and lemon. Taste is nicely bitter and grasy. Not grainy. Clean and refreshing. Nice rounded aftertaste.

Draft at the Portland Blending and Bottling location. Unclear white-gold. Drippy lace. Pale malt, German-style hood and some yeast. Grainy for sure. Bit grassy, some spice on the finish. Clean, lingers on a peppery close.
