Beret has been a staple in our lineup since Bruery Terreux launched in 2015. While the classic release of our spiced, imperial sour witbier aged in oak with raspberries has an enduring and endearing sense of style, we felt it was time to start weaving in a few new threads. Peaches and vanilla provided a peachy keen sweetness to cast the fruity personality of the refreshing, piquant ale in an all new artistic light.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is full of peaches and vanilla with a light raspberry note. Vanilla has a bit of a creamy, lactose and possibly artificial note to it. Faint oak notes with some light citrus and phenolics. Pours a hazy, bright golden orange with medium large, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly but steadily to a thin film that lingers for quite some time. Light lacing and smallish legs. Flavor is moderately acidic, but not sharp at all. Light grain notes. Moderate peach and citrus notes with some faint raspberry. Medium light vanilla and lactose, the creamy notes more prevalent in the finish. Light phenolics and faint oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, not what I was expecting. It’s a lot like peaches and vanilla ice cream, but based on the label and the description I wasn’t expecting and sort of lactose character. It’s good though.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/6/2017. Pours hazy medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big vanilla, lightly tart raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, orange peel, white wine, coriander, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, and bread; with lighter notes of hay, straw, leathery/musty funk, white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit/spices, oak, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge vanilla, lightly tart raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, orange peel, white wine, coriander, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, and bread; with lighter notes of hay, straw, leathery/musty funk, white vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light fruity/lactic tartness and yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of vanilla, tart raspberry, cranberry, cherry, lemon, lime, peach, pear, green apple, orange peel, white wine, coriander, peppercorn, oak, wheat, cracker, bread, light funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit/spices, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light dryness from fruity/lactic tartness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.9%. Overall this is a fantastic fruit/spiced wild ale! all around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, fruit/spices, oak, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellow acidity. Refreshingly tart. Far less puckering, lactic, and drying than the base beer; providing a great showcase of all of the fruits/spices. Great witbier style flavors with balanced Brett complexity. A highly enjoyable offering.
