Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors.
The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil.
Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate.
The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base.
Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.
Hop: Chinook, Kent Golding
Malt: Pale, Crystal, Black, Chocolate
Others: Roasted Barley, Coffee beans
SRM: 100

330ml bottle
Pours pitch black with a small sticky brown head. Aroma has notes of vanilla, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Taste is quite roasty and sweet with hints of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. Finish is long lasting, bitter and roasty. Good stout, but was hoping for more coffee notes.

330 mL bottle. Pours an extremely dark brown with a tan head. Very interesting aroma, very creamy vanilla coffee, raisin, and sweet cocoa, a little soy. Flavor of sweet cocoa and coffee, dark fruit again, and again a touch of soy, finishing with definite coffee grounds. Delightful.

Bottled@SBWF2011. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is espresso, wood, some roasted notes and mild cold dark coffee as well. Flavour is quite similar. Very wellbalanced coffee stout, which leaves a very long coffee aftertaste as well.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Kyoto. Bottled 06/2011, BBE 12/2011
Aroma has surprisingly lots of coffee. Also some roasted malt and hints of sugar. Flavour is really rich on espresso, it overrides everything. As a coffee lover I cannot say that it would be a bad thing. Some chocolate, sugar and roasted malt can be observed behind the coffee wall though. Some harshly bitter coffee at the end and the palate becomes a bit sticky in a sweet way after some sips. However, deserves its place as the highest rated beer in Japan.
Kind of reminds me of Nørrebro La Granja Espresso Stout.

bottle@home: pours pitch-black with an incredible, solid, lasting mocha head, smell is sweet roasted coffee & roasted dark malts, taste is a nice slightly bitter coffee taste upfront & roasted malts with minor espresso & some milk chocolate, a slight roasted bitterness lingers on in your mouth as you finish, bit creamy but not thick, great beer

Bottle from GBBF drunk at home. Now there can’t be many beers that I have anticipated as much as this one. Been looking for it for about 2 years. Black as black with big thick lasting tan head as it sits in a Duvel glass. Strong espresso coffee aroma. Bit of roast too. Boy that is good. Better than I was expecting to be honest. Wow. I had the Birrifico Sally Brown coffee edition before this and thought it was good and I have a Mikkeller Weasel in the fridge, so really have something there to compare this to. Very intense aroma. The mouthfeel is pretty much sublime and the swallow and the finish, just how the beer makes you feel is pretty much amazing. Yes the way it makes me feel is pretty incredible. Not harsh. Just a touch of alcohol on the finish. Pretty damn good.
