Belgian-Style Ale Fermented with Pure Raspberries

Blushing Monk is brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries and with a Belgian yeast strain that keeps our head cellar operator from sleeping for a week. It pours a stunning deep berry red and, at 9.2% ABV, has a surprising kick. The perfect dessert beer, it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh cheeses, fruit, cakes and more.

2015 Bottle shared by Niall73, thanks! Slightly hazy red colour, pink head. Aroma of candy, raspberry. Flavour is light sour, raspberries, medium sweet, fruity, it’s actually quite nice. Compares with Kasteel Rouge imho, in terms of quality and high ABV. Good.

Bottle from Niall. Qdeep red clear. Lasting pink head. Lovely sweet cherry fruit. Vanilla. It’s faultless. Stupidly drinkable. Just a touch of sourness. Great.

Bottle shared on Bermondsey- big thanks to Niall. Pours clear red with a foamy pink head. Big jammy raspberry nose, some tart berries. Medium sweet acor with more ripe, jammy and sugary raspberries. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet but tart on the finish, pretty clean, with loads more jammy fruit, raspberry preserve, cherry. Great stuff.

Excellent on palate, and among the best fruit beers I’ve had outside of New Glarus. Big raspberry. Sweet finish of ripe berries with a hint of seedy bitterness. Pours cloudy ruby with good head and lacing. A very full package. Tap at Churchkey.

Bottle: Clear, deep candy-red with a tall, light pink head. Raspberry, yeast, grain aroma. Flavour is like melted down chunks of hard raspberry candy....sugars, thick....huge.... Not just raspberry.....rose, grape, apple...cherry cough drop/syrup.....a little tart, but hidden in the heavy....Incredibly deep and rich....awesome.... Full and fruity.....excellent.

Bottle from Harvest Market Deep Ruby color with a pink tinged head that shows moderate retention and lace. Huge sweet and tart berry aroma with a faint earthy yeasty Belgian edge to it. The flavor is quite sweet up front with some huge berry flavor but finishes quite dry with a lingering berry. Sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Light to moderate carbonation and a medium body. Its hard to find a beer in here. Overwhelming raspberry aroma color and flavor with a hint of Belgian yeastiness. Is this founders counter to New Glarus’ Raspberry Tart? Tasty, sweet, syrupy very desert like!

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lightly tart raspberry, red grape, plum, apple, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, raspberries, and moderate malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big tart raspberry, red grape, plum, apple, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of fruity/earthy tartness and yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raspberry, red grape, plum, apple, pepper, candi sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, raspberries, and moderate malt sweetness; with an awesome sweetness/tartness/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick/syrupy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible imperial Belgian fruit beer. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, raspberries, and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
