Born from bringing together the brew masters of Perrin Brewing, Cigar City Brewing and Oskar Blues Brewery, this big bodied, robust Oatmeal Imperial Stout was brewed with a wide spectrum of malts from around the globe, experimental hops, and a special London ale yeast strain. Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of oatmeal, grain, prunes, raisins, caramel, toffee and a bigger dose of earth along with a faint hit of alcohol noticeable near the end. Medium-bodied; Strong oatmeal and grain flavours at first with a large bitterness of coffee and a ton of chocolate, coupled with more of a deep, oaked and dry maltiness that shows some earth, but more of the toffee, oatmeal and caramelised sugar sweetness. Aftertaste is deep, complex and sweet with a ton of bitterness, some chocolate and coffee is also there, but fairly thin, considering the oatmeal involved here along with the the malts and even some smoked flavours as well. Overall, an interesting beer that shows some sides of a good Imperial Stout, but also a touch too thin, simplistic and single-dimensional, whereas the style really calls for a bit more. Nice to sample, but considering those involved in brewing this beer, and there should be a bit more, especially in terms of complexity and depth. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Siciliano's in Grand Rapids, Michigan on 13-June-2017 for US$3,39 almost exactly a year after purchase to celebrate the end of one Hockey Season and the upcoming start of the next Red Wings' Season, while at home in the city of Washington on 07-June-2018.

4 pack at home we’ll just 1 for now. More brown than black pour small to medium head. Nose is caramel chocolate and oats. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, oatmeal, root beer, molasses. Little sweet creamy body. Hides booze fine.

12oz can pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The mild aroma offers up chocolate, dark roasted malts, faint dark roasted coffee and then malt balls. The taste delivers malt sweetened dark roasted maltiness and dark roasted coffee flowing into a pleasing chocolate sensation as well as malt balls lined in a faint sense of toffee. Pretty nice as it stays this way into the finish.

Roast, a bit of vanilla and some solid dark chocolate like your relatives ruined your Christmas diet. Pretty decent balance here. Caramel. Bittersweet finish. Can.

So I remember when oatmeal stouts used to be so common. This was like, in the 20th century. Sam Smiths was a thing, and a large proportion of US micros were emulating the more famous British ales by making ESBs and oatmeal stouts. What a time to be alive. I don’t recall ever seeing an imperialized oatmeal stout, and of all the things to receive that treat, how did it take so long? This is good stuff. Of course, oatmeal ferments out more, leaving a lighter body, and honestly that is just what the imperial stout movement needs. The thicker heavier beers are so 2009. This has all the flavors you want, rich roasted malts, sweeter caramels and chocolates, with anise notes throughout - but a lighter drinkable framework without sacrificing oomph.

12 ounce can into snifter, canned on 1/4/2017. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of raisin, prune, fig, date, licorice, smoke, char, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Quite yeasty, but not overwhelming in the aromas. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of raisin, prune, fig, date, licorice, smoke, char, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, dark bread, nuttiness, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Mildly warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is a very nice English style imperial oatmeal stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. The yeast definitely has a good presence in the overall flavors, but there is still a lot of really nice strong malt complexity to back it up. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz can. Pitch black pour with dark ruby highlights and a tan head with good retention. Good lacing. Roasted nose. Taste matches the nose with minor coffee notes. Imperial edge decreases the enjoyment. Almost really good. 9.0 ABV is fairly hidden.

12 oz can. Pours black with a tan head. Raisin, molasses in the aroma, some cream and roast. Molasses and roasty coffee flavor, cocoa, nutty and earthy. Not bad.
