Our second collaboration with Brasserie St-Feuillien, Friendship Brew, is a Black Saison that blends European and American hops, Belgian yeast and a cache of secret spices. The aroma and flavors are enticing, with delicate fruitiness, subtle spice and rounded roast malt characteristics. Bottle conditioning provides lively carbonation and rich beer foam for a luscious body and a lean, dry finish.

Draught from Swift. Dark brown pour. Foamy head. Fruity floral aroma. Taste is a band aid factory with grapefruits and black pepper finish

Tap. Dark brown color with a great head. Aroma was a spicy, Jagermiester type of smell. Taste was.....really weird. Not bad, just different.

Aged a good few years. Billowing head on the pour. The spices are still alive and kicking, but they are quite burnt. Some bitter cocoa, scorched earth, hint of mint. Dry, ashy and bitter to finish. Novel but not really a big-time winner.

Bottled. Hazy ambery brown colour with a mediumsized foamy off-white head. Aroma is spices, some caramel and mild herbs. Flavour is rather spicy, caramelly, some almonds, mild grass and some herbal tones. Long spicy aftertaste.

Tap at Watering Hole. Dark brown/black colour, golden bubbly thin head. Aroma is strange and nice, very herbal, big floral, brown sauce (!), aniseed. Taste is equally strange and nice. Brown sauce again! Fruity, aniseed, dark maltiness too. Really strange. Some vegetable elements and liquorice too. Bit of everything. Maybe even bit of smoke. Really weird. Really great. Little bit slick too. Lovely.

A deep dark black saison with a thick creamy brown head. In aroma, nice roasted caramel malt with light Bret, light mineral notes, light perfumy notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity roasted caramel malt with light Brett, light lactic notes, dry but still pleasant. Bottle from Byrnes Dairy, Liverpool NY, bottle July 2012.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom C’s place. Thanks Tom C. Black-colored with a nice tan head. Aroma of lots of spices, licorice, some fruitiness, some chocolate and coffee. Sweetish flavor, spicy, with caramel, licorice, a light sourish note, fruitiness, coffee, some chocolate and a drier bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
