Cherry, cheesy, woody aroma. Touch of vanilla. Sweet apples flavor. Touch of porto. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. Somewhat sticky sweet. I’m not really convinced that this is a great beer. I must have a really old bottle sometime, maybe I’ll change my opinion then. 7 3 6 2 12 = 3.0 And I did change my opinion! 2003 bottle, tasted in feb 2013. Dark amber color. Sherry, malt, marmelade and orange cake in the aroma. Full bodied. Very sweet, slightly perfumed, malty and alcoholic. Marmelade cake. Sherry notes. Oak. Still lively and well matured.

2011 Vintage. Big and sweet, full of toffee, caramel, rum raisin, and fruity esters, with a boozy bite on the back end and a almost indiscernible bitterness popping up in the finish. Wickedly easy to drink for a 11.5% beast. Sweet, but it's an English Barleywine, so it should be. Good, but needs to be taken in slow and easy.

Bottle shared in London - cheers to Colin. Pours unclear gold with a small, frothy white head. Certainly some oxidation, rich malts, caramel, meaty toffee. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, sticky sweet, toasted sugars, more caramel. Dense but enjoyable.

Craft Islington Bottleshare. Thanks to Colin. Hazy amber beer, small pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth caramel, little toffee. Smooth sweetish ripe fruits balanced by a nice bitterness. Ripe citrus. A real grower, just so drinkable.
