A traditional English Porter based on an historical recipe from the 1850’s. It is made using only English hops, malts and yeast to preserve it’s truly English identity. A decent dollop of black treacle is also added as a reminder to the original recipe. Almost black with dark ruby highlights, this beer has aromas of malt and fruit with flavours of roasted grain, rich malt and a dry lingering finish.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A reddish dark brown porter topped by a tan head. Chocolate and lots of coffee on the nose, with burnt malts and hints of dried fruits. The flavor goes in the same direction, but a bit weaker. Still with burnt malts and coffee, some dried fruits and a nice hoppy bitterness, but the chocolate is gone. Dry, medium to full body and a roasted finish. A pleasant porter, probably lacking on sourness to be truly historic. Not that it matters. 090821

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has strong notes of nuts, caramel, and dusty hops, as well as a bit of butterscotch. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, butterscotch, wood, and nuts, leading to a bitter nutty finish.

Cask at The Hop Pole pubs Easter Beer Festival, Aylesbury in the company of Loz, Chris O, Ruth, Barry, Lynn 21-03-08 This actually wasn’t technically on at the beer festival , it was on at the front bar. Dark brown in colour, a jolly nice porter with good dark fruits offer up plenty of tanginess and making just a bit more fruity than many others in this catergory, reasonable body and quite flavoursome even smoothning out towards the end. My first from this brewery and on this showing unlikely to be my last.
