An even rarer barrel-aged version of Préaris Quadrupel, this one matured on cognac barrels and limited to 2425 bottles. Has the same basic look, aroma and taste as the bourbon version, but seems a bit more vinous, a bit softer and more subtle with less pungent tannins in the background, leading me to like this even more than the bourbon one.

2013 version, alcohol 9.5% ABV Medium, irregular dirty-cream head over deep brown, nearly black beer. Vinous & fruity upon opening, then the aromas evaporate, leaving a nutty, leafy, rather neutral nose. Coloured malts. Coffee, chocolate and alcohol, if none of them outspoken. Very lightly vinous Coloured/chocolate malts. Medium to well-bodied, quite slick. Backthroat alcoholburn. Problem is that the beer is generally too neutral in taste/flavour, and the cognac barreling doesn’t alter much to that state.

Bouteille 37.5cl #547, BB 10/10/2016.
