GBBF Day 1. Bottle. Cheers to archaeological Paul. Clear reddish brown beer, tiny pale tan head. Smooth palate, whisper of carbonation. Tangy malts, some oxidised caramel fits in well. Smooth tangy dark fruits. Smooth finish shows a mild malt creamy sweetness. Clearly ancient but perfectly drinkable and pleasant.

440ml bottle with a pull tab on the cap. Brewed for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, July 29, 1981.
A small hiss when I pulled the cap off and lost few ounces because of that silly pull tab...
It pours a really dark brown with some reddish hues and a few bubbles on top that turn into a very fine semi layer of foam. It mostly hugs the side of the glass but there's an island in the middle. Pretty good looking so I'll give it a 4.0
The smell is interesting. Some nutty tones, light roast and chocolate, and, mostly, a sherry/port like nose. Smell is also pretty good, another 4.0
Here's where I predict things will go down hill...the taste is, well, again not bad. Slightly nutty, a bit of bitter chocolate, toffee, and some port flavours that are very mild but there. Obviously long past its best by date but for how old it is, not too shabby. Not quite a 4.0, I'll give it a 3.5.
The mouthfeel is thin and the carbonation is almost completely gone. Just a slight tingle during the swallow. Score....2.5
Drinkability? The mouthfeel hurts big time. Just low carbonation would jack up the D easily. I give it a 3.0
An interesting experiment with a beer that wasn't meant to be around anymore. No regrets.
