Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well. Note: Cognac and/or Burgundy Barrels.

75cl Bottle sample, thanks to the neighbour at NYE. 2014 edition. Dark brown colour, beige head. Aroma of lots of barrel, red wine, some rum-raisins, cognac, oak, dark fruits, Belgian yeast fruity esters, candy. Flavour is rich, lots of dark malts, dark fruits, raisins, oak, light vinous tartness, red wine, wood, hint of cognac, soft booze, bittersweet finish. Full bodied. Tasty.

On tap pours out copper amber topped with a sand head. Nose is wood pit fruit notes some and a rich malt. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts pit fruit notes and a oak barrel kick.

Bottle, 750 ml, from one of the bottle shops in Zagreb. Shared with rest of the tasting crew. Pours brown with medium sized beige head. Chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, dried fruit, wood, slightly sourish vinous. Moderate sweetness, medium to full bodied. Smooth. This was a 2013 vintage, seems that 4 years in cellar did good.

Cotteridge #3: 20th May 2017. Cheers Dan (The Osprey) for this beauty. Deep, dark brown body, tanned topping. Nose had some caramel like sweetness and sour dark fruits too. Taste is also caramel sweet, less fruity sourness, more woody and sweeter fruits flavour wise. Liked it. Shared a 2012 version on 20th Aug 2019, it's a lovely beer, original rate still correct, had more this time around too!

0.75l bottle, vintage 2015. Very dark ruby body with a thick light brown head. Oak aging becomes obvious after the first smell in the form of wood, vinegar and white wine followed by some orange zest, sour cherries and raisins. Taste of caramel, orange zest, white wine, lemon zest, vinegar, dates, pepper and floral hops. Wow, this is amazing.
