A Golden Sour Beer Aged in Oak Barrels With Chardonnay Musqué Pomace and Tonka Beans.

One year older, one year wiser! This beer was blended in collaboration with our friends at Bar Lupulus to celebrate their one year anniversary. Coincidentally, the release will also mark one year since we added Chardonnay Musqué wine pomace from Trail Estate Winery to barrels of one of our golden sour beers. The addition of Tonka beans (the seeds of the Cumaru tree) lends a complex vanilla, almond character. Oh, happy day!

Bright peachy colour. There's a really apricotty sort of aroma, with a touch of wildness, and a nice barrel accent. Tart, with again a stone fruit character, a bit of barrel tannins. Nice complexity, good flavour, and some nice tartness and tannins in the finish.

650mL bottle, pours a cloudy bright orangey golden with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with pungent, fresh stone fruits, followed by lots of oak, gentle acid, chardonnay, and light vanilla beans. Flavour is super fruity, with intense stone fruit pith, plenty of acetone, and some vanilla. Light chardonnay character, with a fruity, oaky finish. Complex and refined. Excellent.

750ml (thx, Charles S.!) shared at Josh's and Sunshine's rooftop. Appearance: nice murky golden with a white head. Aroma: a bit sweet, sour, fruity, barrel, some fermented vegetables and fruits, quite complex. Taste: along the same lines, moderately sour with acetones notes. Overall: not bad.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some sweet vinous notes and light funky notes is quite nice. Taste is also a nice mix of tart notes with some funky Brett notes, some vinous notes with some residual sugar notes and Tonka beans are also easily noticeable. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable sour with nice vinous notes and just enough residual sugar to provide further balance between the flavours.

A hazed golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, beautiful sweet fruity malt with loads of citrusy notes, light lactic notes, light vanilla, light musky character, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with loads tropical fruits, light peaches, light acidic notes, very nice and complex. On tap at Lupulus.
