Sehr empfehlenswert. Aber warum sind die Flaschen so klein?

330 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, floral, grass, straw, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, floral, grass, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Czech pilsner style. All around good robustness and balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Multiple bottles, drunk in 2007 and 2008.
Unfiltered, bottle conditioned, exported pilsner is some pretty volatile stuff. Just look at Rastacouere’s 4.4 and Ernest’s 2.3 ratings, two people with relatively similar tastes in beer. Thankfully, the batch or two of bottles we got in New England, were fantastic, on the 4.4 side, but I can certainly understand where Ernest’s rating came from. With such light beer, yeast-included, it’s very easy to develop an infection, relative to the filtered stuff. Plus, it’s brewed at DeProef who isn’t exactly known for it’s pilsner production. Then, add to it a journey overseas and storage in a warehouse and perhaps a warm beer store shelf and you start to wonder how this stuff ever tastes great. Fortunately, beer is a very resilient substance and the hops here dont hurt.
As for the beer itself, the best bottles showed an almost sour hop flavor associated with the best Eastern European hops. Spritzy, engaging carbonation and an immaculately dry finish, with ample dextrinous body for balance, made for one of the best microbrewed, yet traditional czech pilsners I’ve had. Served quite cold I find it best, as the yeast notes do mix in, inevitabley, even when the liquid is decanted properly.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a hazy light amber with a bubbly white head. The atom is yeasty with a little dry matt. The flavour is medium bitter with a watery bitter hop palate and a long bitter finish. Light bodied with average carbonation. A tasty lager indeed.

Bordering on a APA, nice hops bitterness, soft on the aroma and a little sharper in the taste. Hazy pale gold with small silky head, citrus notes (mostly grapefruit) take front stage. Dry, but light lingering palate. This is awesome. Not sure if its a pils, but its excellent.

Bottle bought @ beerplanet.be. Pours tiny hazy pale golden with a frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is subtle and tiny malty with buttered crackers, grass, moist green herbs, persimmon, pine needles and hints of butterscotch and lemon zest. Taste is slightly bitter and slightly herbal with crackers, with bread, grass, pine needles, lemon zest, orange zest, lemon balm, green tea and hints of metal and bergamot. Mouthfeel is crisp, clean, astringent and light bodied. Finish is bitter and herbal with white bread, grass, green herbs, lemon zest, pine needles and hint of black currant leaves. A nice surprise, who’d know 3 Fonteinen could brew tasty hoppy session lagers.
