6 May 2018. At De Heeren van Liedekercke. Cheers to Anke's birthday!
Pours hazy ochre with a lasting, small, foamy, white head; little lacing. Uninviting aroma of old lemon, lemon zest, 'diethyltoluamide' or DEET (aka mosquito repellent), flavoured aspirin, flowers, Fanta, some wheat. It tastes light to medium citric sour, somewhat sugary and perfumed, and light wheaty sour with an expected spicy bitter touch. Dryish, wheaty finish, lingering spices and lemon. Light to medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Seems like a 'children's beer', but it was ruined once I thought of the bug repellent, so no thanks.

Lemon-flavored witbier by Millevertus, with a different label than shown here, depicting a charming shepherdess... Thin, lightly ’papery’ lacing, off-white, irregular head quickly dissolving in the middle, over an equally cloudy peach blonde beer with ochre hue, showing both pale living yeast dots and dead, darker yeast clusters here and there, the latter especially after adding the sediment. Not very inviting aroma of moldy lemon or even rotting lime, old lemongrass, dough, soap, stale sweat, lots of coriander seed, old dried apricots, cooked carrot, old apple cake, stewed turnip, hint apple sauce. Fruity, estery onset, suggestions of stewed pear, peach and subdued banana, minerally carbo numbing the tongue a bit, bready middle with sharper grainy edges and clear ’soapy’ wheat, fluffy and smooth but initially still suffering a bit from the overcarbonation (though this effect easily quiets down after a while), the soapiness of the wheat is strongly being stressed by soapy coriander in the finish, deafening even the aromatic lemon zest effect and blending with a bready yeastiness in the very end; a soft wheat sourishness remains after swallowing along with the dried lemon peel factor, but bready yeast (including clove-like phenols) and an overdose of coriander completely disrupt this otherwise crisp and interesting finish. Another example of Millevertus’ good ideas badly executed. If you replace the curaçao by lemon peel, why not think one step further and replace that eternal, soapy, dominating coriander by something else as well? The coriander soup effect still dominates and completely overpowers an otherwise delicate and refreshing lemon feature. Apart from that, the pure technical execution is not very satisfying either, becoming ’dirty’ from the start... Not a bad idea as such, but not well executed, and I’ve had this problem with many Millevertus beers before. Clean up your beers, guys!

Pours clear blonde, good white head. Smell is dry, lemon and lemongrass. Taste is sharp, bit bitter, lemon-pefumed in an almost soapy way. Very perfumy ! bit sweet ( too sweet for what it should be ) . Can’t get the idea out of my head that I’m drinkin soap....
