If hoppy makes you happy, this Pacific Northwest-style IPA is your beer. We brew it with two kinds of delicious Yakima Valley Cascade hops, in such a way as to deliver the maximum heavenly hoppiness to your tastebuds, with the minimum bitterness.

Little Known Fact

The Cascade was the first North American-made aroma hop and the first hop variety from the USDA’s hop research program to be approved for sale since prohibition. It’s aroma is now one of the hallmarks of North American craft beer.

Session was added to the name in 2016, same ABV, so we changed the style accordingly

Can: Poured a light yellow color ale with a small foamy head with medium retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light dry hoppy notes with a light sweet malt backbone. Taste consists of dry hoppy notes with lightly sweet malt backbone. Body is about average as well as carbonation. Definitely short on the hops side of things.

Originally rated July 2006. First thing I noticed on the label, is that it is only written Pale Ale and not India Pale Ale. Pours a clear golden-amber colour with a decent off-white head that leaves very nice lacing all-around. Not much carbonation. The nose is pretty nice with some bread and spices. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky. Grain malt is present in the taste with some mild bitterness in the finish. Now that they have changed the name from IPA to Pale Ale, this one is good.

Bottle, sampled at Viti, pours clear golden. Pretty basic, watered down "IPA" here, with light citrus hops and grassy, bready malts to back. Thin mouthful, with little going on. Not impressive.

Light amber color. It’s a mild Amber Ale, with a light cheesy touch, more evident in the flavor than the aroma. Can be boring.

tap at Big Rock in Seoul - This one has a mild aroma of malt and grapefruit accented hops. The flavor struck me as very fruity and also quite sweet for what they’re calling an IPA. It’s barely hoppier than what Alexander Keith’s claims is in IPA. That’s not saying much. This one’s drinkable, but don’t expect bitterness.

Light bronze colour. Toasty, sulphury and fucking awful diapery aroma. Big Rock is not known for lack of brewing talent but this aroma is flawed. Flavour has residuals of this, but in the background. What you mostly get is the toast...lots of it...like a toasty bagel with butter. But not a real bagel. Like a Tim Horton’s imitation bagel. And it’s margarine, not butter. I happen to like toasted bagels with butter so it’s cool, well as long as I plug my nose, but it’s not a good beer. Seriously, I’m not trying to pick on Big Rock, but I just had a Hacker Hell and it terms of malt character, hop character, cleanliness, it’s a professional beer. This is not.
