Kontiki Bastard is rich, complex, and most of all delicious. Our brewers took our Kentucky Bastard Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout and added heaps of toasted coconut and cacao nibs. The result? Liquid chocolate goodness with a kick of roasty coconut comfort.

Dark brown. No head. The aroma is fairly boozy, light coconut, lots of chocolate, big bourbon. On the palate, a lot of coconut. Big, rich sugars, molasses and bourbon, with again a huge coconut character. Rich, but balanced, in part by a bit of alcohol that dries it out a bit. Excellent stuff.

Black colour, thick. Aroma of roasted coconut, mild vanilla. Full bodied, moderately sweet; rich chocolate flavour, also a bit of sourness, and ends a bit vegetable.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is loaded with toasted coconut upfront, followed by woody bourbon, vanilla, and light cocoa nibs. Flavour is intense, with a ridiculous amount of coconut upfront, followed by robust bourbon barrels, and a touch of cocoa. The coconut is the most dominant part, but the bourbon provides a rounded, deep body for it. Lovely stuff.

500ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!) at Josh's. Appearance: dark brown with a weak of dark beige head. Aroma: roasted malt, bourbon, coconut, roasted seeds, cocoa. Taste: similar with lots of nice fruity notes, coconut, and bourbon. Overall: very nice and complex (do not overcold!).

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt with some black chocolate notes with some vanilla and light coconut notes also perceptible. Taste is a great mix between some black chocolate notes with some vanilla, some coconut and some residual sugar notes is also perceptible. Body is pretty full with good level of carbonation. Enjoyable but I was expecting the coconut notes to be more dominant.
