Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), malted barley, roasted malt, yeast and hops. Fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Supermarket Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a brown appearance with a light brown head. Milk chocolate, somewhat roasty, slight fruity twangy, herbal aroma. Quite roasty, almost smoky, slightly burnt, nutty, earthy flavor. Kind of a cool beer.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a round tan head. The aroma is dark chocolate, liqourice and roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a smooth creamy toffee malt palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Another winner from Sam Smiths.

550ml bottle at home. Very dark brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt and earthy hops. Taste has a chunk of dark chocolate bitterness, then some white sugar sweetness. Medium body, creamy texture. A bit fizzy, but otherwise very nice.

Bottle courtesy of Hugh (non-RB). Pours oily dark brown with a frothy beige head that slowly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is roasty, malty and tiny sour with roasted malts, pumpernickel bread, oatmeal cookies, lemon juice, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, charred wood, toasted cereal and hints of banana bread. Taste is tiny sweet, slightly bitter, tiny sour and malty with roasted malts, charred wood, oatmeal cookies, burnt caramel, banana bread, lemon zest, orange zest, dark roast coffee, high quality dark chocolate, toasted cereal and hints of liquorice fudge. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny watery and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and tiny bitter with toasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, charred wood, banana bread, burnt caramel, hay and lemon zest. Drinkable solid porter...

Opaque black beer with a good pale cream coloured head. Palate is crisp and a little dry. Very mild dark malts, no roast or bitterness. A mild fruity tang and lots of lactose. Finishes semi dry. A pretty milky porter! Okay.
