When we have a chance to get together with the Boombox crew, we generally set a standard that we do something so ridiculous that we are uncomfortable just writing the recipe. This Imperial Stout, which started its life back in January 2018, did exactly that. After a brief time in stainless to ferment, we transferred this beer into freshly emptied Heaven Hills Bourbon barrels. After 10 months in Bourbon Barrels we transferred it into freshly dumped Canadian Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrels to age an additional 3 months. On the nose you get rich maple, dark chocolate and coffee notes, with a hint of bourbon. On the palate, you get a you get a full on assault of maple followed by dark chocolate and bourbon, with notes of coffee, black liquorice and vanilla on the finish. O'Canada!

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and great lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with loads of bourbon, oak and vanilla notes is quite enticing. Taste is a great mix of chocolate malt notes with some bourbon notes, oak and vanilla with some light residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation. I had no expectation but this is a very solid BA imperial stout.

Can at Daniele place in Rome. Thank you Alex. Coffee bean pour with an onori lacing. Nose offer an initial black olive note, than goes caramel and spirit. Mouth is better by far. Sweet maple syrup, sugary, sweet and fat RIS.

On tap at Twin Sails, pours a jet black with a small tan head. Nose is decadent, with heavy bourbon, molasses, caramelized brown sugar, and treacle toffee - yeah, this smells rich. Flavour is intensely sweet, with lots of brown sugar, molasses and vanilla, accentuated by the bourbon barrels. Very sweet, yet manages not to be cloying. Wonderful sipper.

July 07, 2025 (8/4/8/4/15=3.9): Poured from 355mL can (pkg 29 Jan 2019). Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Oxidation, feint maple syrup, sweet chocolate, still decent.

Mar 14, 2019 (8/3/9/4/17=4.1): Poured from the tap at the brewery. Black with minimal tan head. Lots of bourbon with heavy molassesy maple syrup. Very well blended, but can only have one cuz it’s just so dang sweet.

Vintage can, sampled July 2025 (2019). Dark brown. No head. Sweet, nice subtle maple character, lots of chocolate. Mildly sticky, it's solid. 7 - 8 - 8.5 - 8 - 8.5 = 8.1

Draught, fresh @ Alibi. Rich aroma, bourbon and chocolate syrup. Really rich and sweet, with lots of boozy bourbon, extra sticky dark sugars and syrups. Yeah. I like. 6 - 8 - 9 - 8 - 8.5 = 8.1

Taster at Alibi during StrangeFest 2019 shared with Alex. Appearance: very dark brown with a beige head Aroma: bourbon, barrel, some slight veggie-grainy notes Taste: same, very sweet, crazy oily, prominent veggie-grainy notes. Did not find any maple syrup in this. It tastes in the same way as the original one does IMO. Overall: there are definitely lovers of the beers with such profile, but it's definitely not my thing

2024-02-06, can, 4 years old, 9-4-8-3-17=41
The can leaked a bit, long time ago, too much pressure; now it doesn't seem too stiff, to the touch; it still manages to produce the right size head, compact and tan. Sweet aroma, malt, brown sugar, maple syrup. It's sweet, full bodies, a bit syrupy; nice burnt sugar flavour with a touch of maple, but there is also a clear note of bitter almonds that could be a sign of oxidation; clearly strong, but not boozy.
Enjoyable.

2019-07-08, can, horizontal with the regular version, 8-4-9-5-19=45
The aroma of a British Barley Wine, malt, British beer shop, it seems to show some oxidization, but it's probably just a maple misdirection. Rich sweet liquor praline, full bodied, the maple blends and enriches the malt, luscious; some wet wood; warm feeling but with less booze than the original HWC.
Delicious.

2019-03-07, draught at the brewery, 8-4-9-4-18=43
The aroma of bourbon is very strong, some spirit. Sweet mouthfeel, yes, rich, with luscious chocolate, maple syrup, honey, nutty truffle, and more bourbon; the spirit character is well integrated; not boozy.
A treat.

2019-02-25, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 8-4-9-4-18=43
Black colour. Aroma of dark chocolate, bread, roasted malt, light smoke. Full bodied, syrupy chocolate, lots of bourbon, there could be some maple syrup, warming alcohol.
Fantastic.
