Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.

Drank 3/19/11. 2010 vintage. Bomber into tumbler, shared with Brenn79. Pours a hazy orange with a quick collapsing light-beige head. Aroma is strong in carmael malt, to the point of cloying. Taste is super sweet with no bitterness. Tastes a bit like caramel corn. Carbonation is medium-high, full-bodied and oily. Way too friggin sweet for my tastes.

2010 bottle:
Pours a coppery amber colour with a rich head. Sweet aroma with notes of caramel, candy and marzipan. Sweet flavour with notes of caramel, honey and marzipan. Alcohol bitter finish. Too sweet for me.

Mine was 9 % ABV and Vintage 2008. Clear dark amber with very little head and lots of yeast floating around. Aroma is sweet, malty, dried fruit and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet and only slightly bitter. Sweet finish. Too sweet. If I hadn’t read the label I would say it’s a barley wine. 280211

Beautiful, copperbrown beer with medium and beige head. Aroma is malty and sweet, toffee, berryjuice (Mehukatti) concentrate; strongly sweet aroma, still quite nice. Taste is also first sweet with some balancing roastiness and herbal spicyness, aftertaste is quite dry. Almost full bodied and slippery to drink, pleasant. Toffeeish and berry aromas reminds me from english ales, then taste is maybe more typical belgian ales; sweet beer that would need more trimming and more sophisticated setting.

Purchased at the \"green\" Jewel in Chicago, IL as part of a mix & match six pack; enjoyed on a Wednesday night prior to the large holiday weekend. Fantastic brew. Appearance a vibrant amber with a thin white head, a stream of small bubbles rising to the top. Aroma of strawberry jam, toast, slightly tart, rather sweet, more on the soft side but not faint, just a nice balance. Taste is rather smooth with an alcohol backing, sweet, still encompassing that toast with strawberry jam flavor, a bit of Belgian candi sugar, definitely full bodied. It’s pretty good stuff.

Bottle @ Home. Pours orange brown with a small offwhite head. Aroma is sweet roasted malt, caramel, raisins, sweet brown bread, bit of alchohol. Taste is sweet caramel, belgian yeast, roasted malt, toffee, sweet dark dried fruit. Medium body, lively carbonation, short finish. Overall the aroma impresses more than the taste, but still a solid Belgian strong ale.201210

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a light head. The aroma is malty, and the flavour is vinous and port and rum like. Overall an ok rich and vinous tasting beer.

Bottle, 8%. Mild fruity aroma. Nice clear dark orange amber colour. Small tan head. The flavour is malty and caramelly. A little sweet with some brown sugar. Good bitterness to balance. Does not taste very Belgian, but good nonetheless.
