AKI (meaning Fall in Japanese) is our substitute Fall beer to last year’s Momiji Amber Kellerbier. This time we went for a German Amber Wheat Ale. Delicate toasted, smoked (yes, again, just because we love it!) & caramel malt flavours. Soft bready & grainy wheat character complementing light notes of cloves and banana. Cheers!

Can: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a light brown foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of gentle smoke notes with some light dry caramelized malt notes with some cereal notes is quite enticing. Taste is a delicate mix of light smoked malt notes with some dry caramelized cereal notes with hints of residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation. Balanced, drinkable with just enough complexity.

Tasting at Matt's, can
Cloudy, dull, brown colour. Smells like an American Dunkelweizen, anise. Ok Dunkelweizen flavour, moderately spicy, light sweetness, and luckily no banana, with just hints of smoke.
Bah.

355mL can, pours an opaque dark orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out estery banana, light smoke, and toasted biscuity malt. Flavour is a bit phenolic, with smoke, light esters, and biscuity malt. This isn't pleasant at all -- too phenolic.

A deep dark dunkel with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet dark fruits, plums, peated notes, light phenolics, very nice. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with light peated, dark fruits, very nice and smooth. On tap at Lupulus.
