Amalgamation is an unblended mixed fermentation beer with a bunch of whole gewurztraminer grapes from my friends Chaberton Winery in Langley.

This funky beer spent its whole life in stainless, originally intended to top-up other barrels as they were emptied. It was brewed with a base of pilsner malt, a lot of raw buckwheat, and a touch of triticale. The buckwheat provided tons of a specific precursor for the strains of Brett in the diverse mixed culture, which resulted in an absolutely insane amount of tropical fruit esters.
The addition of Gewurztraminer grapes took the beer in a different direction. The bright, distinct, flavour of lychee combined with the notes of tropical fruit to elevate the bouquet to a whole new level. The maceration and subsequent refermentation of the whole grapes brought with it a noticeable increase in acidity, dryness, and tannic structure.

This blend is bottle conditioned and contains 7% alcohol by volume. It was released 12/23/18 and was predominantly sold out of the tasting room at Luppolo, with the exception of a few select stores.

Not romantic. Too dramatic. We can work it Night By Night. Has a bigly citrus yeasty smell, looks like foggy orange yellow with a hint of foam. Flavour is heavy citrusy yeast, chewy grains, sharp sourness. Kind of an overbearing take on a yellow Belgian ale but it sort of works.

Cloudy orange-blond colour; while pouring, a lot of solids fall into the glass. The smell is not very attractive, initially there is a lot of diaper, later that fades away and some fruit appear. The acidity is quite sharp, moderate white grape and stone fruit character, finishing with strong astringency, and unfortunately that yeast/diaper feeling again.

Cloudy blond colour. Acidic aroma, some smell of soured wine. Soft mouthfeel, also very dry, and very sour, touch of fruit, grape skins, lemon. Very light dough feeling in the finish, which is also quite astringent.
I get the character from sour grapes, but not the characteristics of a Gewürztraminer.

375 ml bottle. Pours a hazy amber with light head. Aromas of barnyard, stoned fruit and dull wheat. Flavors of tart orange soda, limes, funk, dry wheat and calcium carbonate.

Fresh Mandarin and light white fruit. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Tart and bright orange citrus with a long and fruit dry finish. Bright and sour. Pleasant.

Draught, Luppolo. Hazy and a bit dull. Mellow brett, tart, but with some band aid phenols, which definitely mess things up. Nice beer, minor grape notes, just that band aid.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of wild yeast and some grape must. Flavour is full of phenols, with tart citrus and grapes. Way too rubbery and acidic. A flop.
