8/28/2009 I can’t find a vintage on the bottle. Pours a clear deep orange/amber with a bubbly white head the dissipates, but never really goes away. Smell is sugary sweet with lots of dark fruits cherries and plums predominantly a bit of vanilla and rubbing alcohol. The alcohol stings the nose if I take a deep breath after swirling the glass a bit. Taste is sweet with cherries prunes and plums, some oaky vanilla and a whole lot of hot alcohol. Harsh alcohol burn! Mouthfeel is sticky, body is thick, carbonation is medium. I don’t know how to feel about this one. It is hot as hell, there is no hiding of the alcohol here. I think its tasty but the burn is a bit to much to allow me to enjoy this one, maybe with some age?

Clear amber with ruby tinting that sits beneath a small off-white head. Candy aroma combined with herbal hops. Sweet with the hop bitterness staying hidden underneath the sweetness. Perhaps too sweet for my tastes.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy reddish color with a floating particles and a medium tan head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee, oak, bready, vanilla, maple, caramel, whisky. The taste is tart cherries, oak, caramel, toffee, vanilla, spicy notes, bread, and some alcohol warmth. Medium-full bodied. Very nice beer.

30th May 2008. Strong ale, almost salty like a strong barleywine. Well balanced by a prominent woody and vanilla tones. Silky palate. Very drinkable.

Pours copper red with a slight haze and a small-ish head. Toffee, bourbon and oak on the nose. Flavour is loads of oak, loads of bourbon and a great deal of booze. I’m not too keen on oak flavour, don’t like bourbon and realy don’t like the taste of alcohol. I don’t think this beer was designed for me.

Bottle Pours out a hazy copperish orange topped with a sand head. Aroma of wood, sweetness and some booz. Tast was of wood, a little vanilla, pit fruit and plenty of the candy sugar.

bottle - Pours hazy amber with a medium sized head. The aroma is heavy on the bourbon with some oak and sweet caramel malt. Flavori s also big on the bourbon. There are also very sweet malt flavors with some dark fruit accents. The nearly 12% abv is readily apparent in the finish without being too hot. This full bodied brew has a sweet, lingering finish. I haven’t sampled quads lately, but I’d say that while quite good, it’s a little lacking for what can be a very complex style. Perhaps the bourbon overpowers some of the complexity. I have Weyerbacher’s regular quad too so I’ll have to see how that compares when I get to it.

Tasted at Alesmith Barrel Aged Decadence release. Pours with a hazy brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma of oak, wood and dark fruits with touches of vanilla and caramel. Taste is dark fruits with toffee and bourbon. Creamy mouthfeel, light carbonation.

Hazy color, red to dark amber, with a medium sized creamy head. The aroma can be perceived already while pouring the glass; there is some malt, caramel, delicate oak and light glue. The body is well structured, there is a strong malt flavor and, either the age or the barrel, it seems to be quite oxidized; medium sweet; there is some light vanilla flavor too, and a touch of light liquorice. The final is balanced, the bitterness is respectable, and the alcohol starts warming the throat. It’s a good, solid beer, but I would not drink it too often and it’s missing some exciting edges.
Suggestion: even if I like my beers with low carbonation, this sturdy beer is better appreciated with a slightly higher level of carbonation.

Bottle, 12oz. Pours a nice, translucent copper body under a beige head. Vanilla, oak, sugars, some alcohol and dried fruits in the rather intense and complex aroma. The kind of aroma one could enjoy for a looong time. The flavor is sugary and alcohol-warming, with oak, dried fruits and hoppy bitterness as well. The bitterness was unexpected, but sure likeable. Full body. It has a long finish with oak, dried fruits and caramel. And bitterness. A really lovely 1 hour beer. (080216)
